And do they make it more likely to fail on the repair? Just want to know before i put one on my favorite toy.

They do increase the wear rate significantly.

I doubt if they make repair harder.

probably whatever your damage per shot is raised...ie. you damage per shot could be 50 now but using a powerup makes it 55 you probably decay 10% faster...since you are getting 10% more out of the weapon...same, I think, holds true for slicing a weapon.
