Thread: Crafting Change Post Up! Link Inside
Are they pulling another censorship stunt on this thread or have many simply not seen it yet? It's filled with a lot of non-advanced flippant crafters who read two lines of the explanation before their attention span dropped out, with a surprisinglack of violently angry, screaming smiths.
This thread was nothing but a ploy on less-informed players: Make it long, throw in one too many loaded terms, add inthe economy even though it's entirely unrelated, and they'll automatically assume you must beright by proxy.
The condescending "crafters/consumers don't know what they want so we'll force them" tone combined with the most non-sequitur contradictive statements I've ever seen made on SOE's behalf just leaves me awestruck. Resource quality and crafting? Since when did any single crafter ever get ahead because he had poor resources? This patch changes nothing in regards to the resource dependency; it's already as high as it could possibly be. And adding variety into items by limiting the variety available and penalizing those that choose an opposing route? Why does this reasoning not follow? Lastly, there's the whole placing limitations on monopolies and inviting consumers to find new crafters -- a thinly veiled explanation that says, "We think doing this will bridge the gap between lesser-smiths and uber-smiths." Once again, why does this reasoning not follow? How does this change do anything for bridging the gaps?
It doesn't. There wasn't a single explanation in this post. It was just attributing a mess of false dilemmas and false causes and false reasoning without anything at all tying the change into the reasoning.
When's the last time the devs actually gave a **edit** about what anyone said? All through the previous six publishes, they've IGNORED what anyone has to say about anything, no update notes, no nothing, just a feigned air of impossible perfection.
When they started making overtures to actual "CRITICAL RESPONSE", we should have known the **edit**storm was inbound. They were only pretending to listen to the players to prep us for when they shoved their UNLUBED EXPERIMENTATION **edit** UP OUR **edit**.
I particularly enjoyed this last line of the post...
"As always, we welcome and will happily address your comments and questions."
I can think of a rather large petition thread full of comments and questions that has gone unanswered and ignored. When the Publish is complete, it will be a sad day indeed. Already preparing to hide my Master Weaponsmith title because I really don't want to try and explain something that I can't explain.

Thanks! Exactly my thoughts.
I also do not believe that the post rating is valid as well. Too many good stars for moronic "I love SOE" posts, and too many one-starred posts opposing this change.
I am closer to quitting after seeing this insult than I was before they "explained" things.
I read it. Since I am at work now, it will be a bit before I can respond. But basically they are talking out of an orifce that was not meant for speech ![]()
The bottom line here is that, as usual, they are going to do what they want to do. All they we say falls on deaf ears. I think the best tactic is for all of you to go to your galaxy boards and post a public service announcement about this. I will quote the part about things not being as good post patch and explaining what it means. If I have learned anything. it is that they will respond when combat classes get po'd. Just let them know their weapons will be crappier and armor a huge encumbrance. Hmmm, food won't be as good and doctor buffs will be a lot less effective. They won't listen to us. But get some PvP people agitated and they will.
translation of soe comments:
we really don't care what everyone has to say - we are going to do this anway ....

They want "variety" in a similar way to "variety" in the real world. You go buy a car. Well, if you're rich, you go buy a nice new BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, etc. If you're poor, you're getting a beat-up old Honda.
They want to make the average crafted item the beat-up old Honda, and right now it's a Mercedes. They want to create a "Guci" class of crafted items for the very wealthy players to buy, and for the other players to aspire to.
My guess is they're thinking this will give the non-wealthy something to strive for that does not require adding content. They're hoping that players will go plug away at thousands of missions so that they can afford that uber T-21 they've had their eye on for months.
If the problem economy is the reason for the change, why was it originally planned for November last year, and why has the economy held up when it was not implemented then?
