I have read a lot of posts concerning the crafting changes. In the end, there seems to be little we can do. This dev team will forge ahead whether we like it or not. Ultimately they will have to live with the consequences. Two things really bother me about this, aside from the change itself. We were obviously lied to from the beginning. When I first started reading about this, the idea was to cut down on crit fails, make experimentation more interesting and create more variety. They never mentioned the part about this being a piece of the combat revamp (which it obviously is) and that is was being done to help fix the economy. Set aside the question of whether or not this is the approach to take, the fact that they changed their story a couple of times just bothers me. Whenever I read a dev post, I always feel like they are talking to me as if I were a small child. That kind of condecension is just irritating.
The other thing that bothers me is that after several pages of comments on the testing forum, the only reply was - still thinking/don't get emotional. To be fair, there were some posts which were out of line, but there were many that were more closely reasoned than anything the devs wrote. Most of the rebuttals by players are either "I like the change", "wait and see" or "shut up you crybabies". I have yet to read anything that makes me think this could work out. But given all that, why have the devs been so silent. So many people were able to respond intelligently in a matter of hours. Why can't they give us a rebuttal in a couple of days?Either they know their case is weak or they just do not care.I don't like either one.
So what happens from here? Wait and see on my part. I have neither the time nor desire (much less data and storage space) to start a big stockpiling operation. And my gut feeling is that they will eventually do what they did to pre-nerf FWG5's. Last thing I read was that you could pull them out of crates, but they would assemble without the power handler. In essence, nerfing the pre-nerf items. Who is to say they won't do the same with crates from patch day forward? Everything will assemble according to the new specs. It would make a lot of people mad, but hell, they are already mad.
But if they don't do that, it's easy to see what happens. A pre-nerf market opens up. People with millions of credits gobble up those weapons. People in the middle and at the bottom are stuck with the new stuff. WS moves from being a crafting profession to being a manufacturing profession. People sell what they have schems for. Probably the only thing that will get crafted are new weapon schems and heavy weapons. It won't matter in the former because we haven't seen them yet. In the latter, they are such a pain to make and the damage is high anyway, who will notice? People who are in it to make gobs of money will do well. People like me, who just enjoy crafting, will probably slowly drop out due to frustration or boredom. Nobbs will be able to take our place because ther will be a market for the nerfed weapons, just not a very profitable one.
Maybe I am wrong, but my feeling is that they are doing this to purge the crafting ranks. I think that from a database standpoint, there are too many of us and we stockpile too many resources. Culling some of us does not bother them. I can easily see atransition to where the high end weapons are loot drops or limited schematics like we have now. All crafted items are generic junk used by the average hunter for resource gathering. With that kind of rebalance, who needs a bunch of master crafters? Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

Sp in short, the novel idea of having the good stuff created by the players would be in the process of being dropped due to database problems. A scary thought indeed, and whilst I can't say that alternative explanations aren't possible, it does explain the observatiojns one can make frighteningly well.

Couldn't agree more. The lack of adequate reasoned explanation from the devs on this, paired with the sheer volume of people protesting this change has become the final straw for me with this game. There are so many reasons that this change is not necessary at this point in the game. With changes in such major game systems still happening this far after lauch I feelilke I'm paying 15 bucks a month to Beta-Test for them.
By trying to fix the economy with this change they are making a huge mistake.Yes it is somewhathard for new crafters to break into the economy, but that's what encourages competition, and competitive prices. Everyone knows that there are a few well known crafters on every server with millions in credits and extra experimentation points, and able to make top of the line stuff. It's also pretty comon knowledge(with a few exceptions) that you are going to payamuch inflated price if you buy from these crafters. The beauty of the system though is that anyone can make the same stuff as them with the proper resources, players just have to be willing to look, and waitfor what they need. For example, on Shadowfire Brenn is the major merchant city, you can find anything that your looking for there. I was recently looking for a full set of Comp Armor with 80% Kin resists, and found many sets for sale here from many vendors, but with prices I simply wasn't willing to pay. A day later while on Rori, I found a small vendor there with mulitple suits of 80% Kin armor stocked at a fraction of the price, not to mention lower encumberance than any that I found from the servers well know Armorsmiths. I was able to pick up a complete set for the price that A chestplate and helmet would have cost me in Brenn.
As far as being part of the combat balance, I see this as just another excuse to push forward a new system that they haven't though completely through. As a fact of gaming, some players are always going to be stronger than others, plain and simple. And I'm fine with knowing that there areplenty of people who can kickmy a$$. It's what motivates people to play games in the first place. I pay $15 a month so I can fight the best, craft the best, do something that the other guy can't do, or have something that the other guy can't get. And I'mno saying I want to be able to solo everything in the game, but by making it so that I can't go out and kill a few things by my self from time to time, or even be able to survive anescape should the rest of my group bite it, they're taking all the fun out of the game. I mean first they make it so you have to pay when you die. OK no problem just don't die. But then they turn around and make eveything you would wanna fight stronger, and are now making us even more vulnerable by softening our offense and defenses even more.
Personally, I play this game as an escape from my day to day life as I'm sure a lot of people out there do.And lately due to constant changes to the game, it's becoming less of an escape and more like what I have to deal with every day. Paying the bills, broken stuff, and worrying about a source of income so I can fix all my broken stuff from dying every time I wanna go out and have a little fun. Just seems like I get my butt kicked all week, and now I'm coming home to relax by getting my butt kicked.

The lack of communication by the Devs is due to the fact the "explaination- justification" post was made on a Friday, and the Devs don' t work on the weekends...lol. I made a post about lack of Dev communication on the weekends, when most players actually play and have issues and ideas, and was quickly one starred...
Go figure...

Guess people really don' t want the communication that they' ve been crying for.
