1. Whomever dies with the most resources wins
2. There is no such thing as too many resources
If you're starting out in WS you must understand a few things.
Resource requirements for advanced weapons/components are VERY specific, and often you will have to settle for absolute garbage resources because that's all there is.
If you're starting out and you want to make good stuff as soon as you hit MWS, you will probably need about 10 mil credits plus to buy into old resuorces.
get yourself more lots and a solid fleet of mineral harvesters, as well as Gas, chemical, and flora. Two Gas, 2, flora, and 4 Chemical should be all you need. You will want up to 10 mineral. Don't mess around with mediums, go heavies. The costof 18 heavy harvestersis about 10 million credits on Bria. Find a buddy who is an Architect that can suppy you. Or you can go it alone and become an architect yourself and make your own.
I started out as an Architect with a handful of BER-2 Personal harvesters. Eventually I worked up to a fleet of BER-4's. Then I got some mediums at BER-6, then 8, then 10. Eventually I replaced all my harvesters with BER-13 Heavies.
You will NEED more than 10 lots. Figure out what you will do. I havea combat alt, so I effectively have 20 lots. The alt owns my house, factories, several harvasters, all 10 of my WS's lots always have a harvie churning on them.
MINE ALL THE TIME You will always need resources and it's not uncommon for a required resource to be unavailable for extended periods of time-- Months on end.
go to http://www.swgcraft.com/tools.phpand pick up Fooman's SWGWS Tool v6.0. It is an amazing spreadsheet that will help you immensely.

hmm maybe is should make a master artisan/arcitect/merchant alt so i can sell my guns and handle harvester replacement/upgrades as i need as well as gain more lots. now one question are all the planets the same or do some have better yeilds of high quality resources, atm im on Tantoonie with a 84% mine of type 4 radioactive with 995 quality.

Oh you have so much learning to do young one :-)
Such resource spots on a planet is called a "Shift" (a resource can be 'in shift'). Such a in shift resource will often exist on more then one planet.. However it is fully posible that 2 different 'Shifts' of the same resource exist (forinstance "ABC Duraloy steel", and "XYZ Duraly steel"), these 2 different named resources will have different stats.
The % of the spot you find just takes a lot of surveying.. 84% is pretty good btw, often you will have to spend an hour or more wandering around different planets to find a good enough spot for that resource you want to harvest
Also, use http://www.swgcraft.com/currentresources.phpa lot! it will show you what's currently in shift, on what planets, and what its atributes are
However be prepared to spend the next weeks learning all about these resources, and the 50+ named resources a Weapon Smith needs to do his or her job .. It is not easy, and it does take a lot of time! if this is not for you, try a different profession :-)

you don't _need_ more than 10 lots, depending on the volume of sales you intend to pursue. i have one account. i have one house and one factory permanently placed. that leaves me seven lots to manage for resources, and i also harvest my own energy, so sometimes i only have 5 lots for minerals/chems/gases/wood. i only use medium harvesters since, if it follows the pattern from personal to medium, you pay 50% more for power use and maintenance on a heavy but don't get 50% more product out of it (i could be wrong on this point, i've never seen a heavy). i only have one resource that i have more than 250k of, the rest are anywhere from 20k-200k.
i usually only make 25 or fewer of any particular weapon at a time, and sometimes those will last a month or more. i don't do much business, but i do enough to get by. the customers i do have almost always become repeat customers. i've got about 2 million in funds at the moment, with about 4.3 million tied up in krayt tissues.
all in all i make close to the best weapons on my server considering i only have 10 experimentation points. my shop is out of the way and not advertised on the planetary map, but i'm not harrassed by people wanting uber weapons, so i consider it a fair trade off.
my main point is your mileage may vary. if you want to be the leetest smith on your server (highly unlikely considering you're starting now) you probably do need multiple accounts, etc. but enjoy smithing whatever way you play, that's the best advice i can give.

credits are what will seem like my primary problem at start, but i figure if this radioactive im mining atm doesnt shift too soon i can sell some of that energy for a few k, average ive seen is 6k for 5k energy on my server.
