ive been thinking awhile and was getting interested in doing WS. Is it worth spending time on it and does it take alot of credits just to be a decant MWS?

quite simply , being mws is really fun

especially when you manage to craft a really K.A weapon for someone or mange to repair their favourite piece

think it could be more interesting if the upcoming space expansion allows us to make missles and cannons for fighters.

But getting there is really a pain and competeing is even harder, there are alot of weaponsmiths from what i've seen and the older ones have a tight control over some of the best resources,

Outside that, its worth platying

: )

ps. did i mention that you need SEA to actually be able to seriously compete in the market?

It will require some level of dedication whether it cost's alot of credits (mainly in starting up the business etc) depends on how quickly you want to be competitive. To be able to sell Weapons with competitive stats is going to require a lot of high quality resources (some being very rare too) of which it will either take time (typically 3-6months for a complete inventory but 3 is usually a minimum to gain all the mainstay resources etc) or money (depending on your server you could easily spend in excess of 20-50 million credits buying everything).

I am trying not trying to scare you away here don't get me wrong I am totally addicted to the profession and it can be very fufilling and satisfying but it will take dedication to set it up and maintain.

I wouldn't be put off by this WS is probablyone of the few proffession's where the extra +2 does not greatly affect the outcome its more icing on the cake and you can be competitive without them. (AS on the other hand its almost compulsory these days).

What I think Chytah is getting at is that to be considered "the" WS or to compete with whomever this is then you are going to need the +20 WS exp in SEA's. You can have a quite profitable business without them. The extra will make life easier to be sure but its not essential.

Where the SEAs really are necessary is if you plan on doing a lot of custom orders using enhancers (krayt tissues, Acklay bones, etc.). Most customers will want the reassurance that they are entrusting their hard-earned (or expensively purchased) loot to a +20 smith.

However, if you are planning to primarily sell standard weapons through a vendor, then you don't really need the +20 points.

Also, it's true that there have been some good resource spawns in the past and the established smiths are sitting on stacks of them. But keep in mind that new resources spawn all the time. So eventually resources of equal or greater value (or at least a close second)will spawn, and when they do be ready to harvest the heck out of them.

Basically, if you are looking to make a quick buck, resource mining is a better way to go. If you are really interested in being a crafter, then WS is a good choice. Take the time to harvest the resources you need, rather than dropping 10 million credits all at once. Maybe buy a small quantity of the best extinct resources to use in custom weapons, but otherwise just take your time with it.

One other thing, take the time to learn something about making weapons as you grind up the WS tree. A lot of smiths grind it out in a couple of days, and then have no clue what to do next.

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.

I like it a lot.

It takes some dedication though, resources, knowing your schematics, knowing how the combat system works, etc.

I like being able to support my friends in-game, or know that when I'm levelling a profession on my alt that I will always have a source of good-quality weapons for free

Please allow my input.

I was in Beta and quickly decided to go crafter on launch.
WS was my choice, and i do not regret it, in any way but:

If you love your tools, go for it.
If you love getting TONS of tells all the time. Ditto.
If you love getting yelled at for not responding tells, go for it. Cause you WILL get a ton of e-mails and tells.

Buttom line? Work. Online work. Worth it?
Maybe, maybe not. Depends on your goal.
Rich as a king?
I would say no at this point.

I just came back from a 6 month 'vacation' and it's still the same. Uber resources, uber skill mods and time.
Most of all time!! It all takes time. Alot of it too.

I would personally suggest that SOE get their head out
of their asses and make us a tad more class-friendly.
This sucks.

what are SEA's? but in general i just got Novice WS and this is so much easier then i expected since im used to the tradeskilling system of Everquest. here in SWG i can just double click the parts i want and click next lol and of course i love that experimentation gambling cause ive gotten some sweet powerups off it(+20% min damage scopes).

SEA's are Skill Enhancing Attachemts, basically skill tapes and armor attachments. There are three types of WS related SEAs: Weapon Experimentation, Weapon Assembly and Weapon Repair. Of these, Weapon Experimentation is the most coveted, because for every +10 in tapes you get an extra experimentation point (to a maximum of +2 points). For standard weapons, the +2 experimentation points are nice to have, but not vital. However, for making custom enhanced weapons the +2 pointsare more important.

Weapon Experimentation SEAs sell for millions, so it may be awhile before you can afford any, unless you get lucky and find your own or you have guildmates that can help you get them.
