Currently all ranged weapons require 50% CD 50% OQ
and 50% 50% effect on all stats so all of us have spent months collecting the best metals for these stats etc.
how about changing it to that the weapons stats so they don't all rely on the same resource resource stats.
just as an eg.
speed 100% CD
damage 20% CD 80% OQ
condition 100% OQ?
you get the idea - we could even use some additional resource stats for the lesser used experimentation lines
range 50% OQ 50% SR
HAM 80% MA 20% OQ
That way we can choose to lose some speed to get slightly better damage etc. Also our resource stockpiles of the 'best ever copper' are still just as useful, but now there is no longer a best ever full stop. there is now a best ever for getting speed on a flamer and best ever for damage on a laser rifle etc. Would allow weaponsmiths to differentiate themselves by maybe specialising on. You could specialise in having siginificantly lower HAM weapons by using slightly poorer CD materials but much higher MA.
I know this would make more it harder for smiths and would make a revised storage system a nessesity, but as it is, it is rather too easy to have the best of everything. I know that any spawn at best will give me an extra few damage and 0.1 speed because what I already have is so close to the resource caps. Also allows newer players to maybe get the speed or HAM lower than the old masters ws because the current resources are better in those stats but arn't used by others for the lack in one of the other stats.
just a thought as its kinda boring when the best smiths on the server churn out identical weapons because they all have the best ever of every resource and even those with lesser resources are only a couple of damage or 0.1 speed behind.

I like it. However, it would just makeour hunt for "uber" resources 10x harder

I don't like this idea for the same reason you just pointed out. Searching for the best resources to make the best weapons is hard enough as is. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but very difficult. And, I'd prefer not to make our profession any more difficult.

Gwief,
I can't agree more with you. The most boring thing that I find as a weaponsmith is that the jobs just becomes extremely repetitive after a few days. Experimentation qualities are always the same, and you only need 1 best steel, 1 best aluminium and 1 best copper (with respect to CD and OQ) and ou are in business. Of course I oversimplify, but basically there is only 1 best ressource of every category.
Then, most guys are only interested in DAMAGE, and that is all on the same experimentation line. So I end up really maxing the damage on any weapon, and then puttin the leftover points (if any, usually my 10 points all go in the damage exp) in range or efficiency. Has anyone ever experimented for durability? Who would like to use a very durable but not very damaging weapon... I haven't met anyone who would like to improve the durability of their Krayt blaster at the expense of damage. Again I oversimplify but... you get the point.
I have become armorsmith becasue of that. Now You talk about complexity!! Layers, segments and armor use at least 4 categories, MA, SR, OQ and UT. and then you can really play around with base, special effectiveness and durability/encumbrance. Soem resource will just be the best to minimize encumbrance (MA/OQ) while some others will be mandatory for high resists (SR/OQ). Now you dont have 1 best resource for each category, you have 2 or 3, and now you have to think carefully about the results you want to achieve.
My suggestions:
1. Speed and damage should be in separate experimentation pools
2. Durability should not be experimentable. Tough materials make durable weapons at assembly, point.
3. More properties of the resources should matter. I agree that speed should be 66 CD 33 OQ, damage 33 CD, 33 SR, 33 OQ, and HAM should be based on Maleability as you suggested. Friom a programming standpoint it wouldn't be tough to at all.
For weapons, the only variability that can be found is
- the quality of the looted components where applicable
- the random quality of the slice
Thanks for bringing this idea.
Cheers,
Hukka
