I keep hearing about this "Patch Day" where all the crafters were able to make some really nice stuff. What is "Patch Day" and does it happen every time there's a patch or was it a one time deal?

For 24 hours all crafters used new crafting code on the live servers. This code was then rolled back and the old crafting code was reinstated. The main difference if I understood it properly was that during these 24 hours you could no longer max out one stat and then spend the remaining points on another stat. No matter how many exp points you had the best you could do is max out a single stat.

However, if you had enough exp points and good enough resources, you could ACTUALLY MAX the stat in question. So this meant you could do things like create armor segments that were 100% experimented for effectiveness (or close to it). Or create Adv. Blaster Power Handlers with 100% damage experimentation .. etc.

This meant that other stats suffered badly. However it was only in effect for a single day, so many crafters did things like make TONS of schematics for sub-components like those mentioned above, and then used them in weapons and armor after the patch where they could then use their experimentation points normally. This created some amazing armor and weapons for a while. T21s with base stats well over 400 max damage. Composite armor with effectiveness in the mid 70s. Crafting stations and tools with perfect FR... and so on. All of this could be done with less than perfect resources, assuming you had enough experimentation points.

So, really the developers never intended for the mixed use of these patch schematics with post patch schematics. It's just something that smart and enterprising crafters caught on to right away and took advantage. Overall I liked the approach of the crafting changes, however it did benefit the higher-end crafters over the lower end ones. Today, for the most part, all weaponsmiths with the same resources make weapons with the same max damage. You cannot do better than your resources allow. This means that new weaponsmiths just need to collect resources to compete. With the changes in that patch, weaponsmiths with higher experimentation points would get better damage results with the same resources over the weaponsmiths with lower experimentation points.

The community contemplated this change and argued about it for a while and before it ever hit live condemned it for favoring the richer crafters with more experimentation points. As a result SOE rolled it back 1 day after releasing it. It seems like a shame, because that change made more sense to me than the current crafting code does.
