First, use practice mode. You'll get more xp, and you won't have millions of weapons you can't sell.

Second, what are you grinding for xp?? I'm 1/1/2/3 WS after a couple weeks of not very serious grinding. Make pistol barrels until you get enough xp for Intermediate Munitions, then make medium warheads. I've moved on to heavy warheads, which give 735 xp each in practice mode. The skevon and thoranium can be hard to find, but well worth it, if you can find them.

Never once used a macro when grinding WS.

If you'd like grind something that requires generic metals, grind proejctile rifle barrels. They require Steel and a metal.

I moved onto using practice mode yesterday to grind metal staffs which give 88xp on practice. You recommend intermediate munitions to gain more xp? I shall have to try that.

guys... with the Merchant item limit nerf coming, after PUB 10 you wont be able to find resources in less than 100k stacks.

So save your pennies... the crappiest resource in a 100k block will still cost you 300+K

goodbye weaponsmith...

Heavy warheads were the greatest for my grind through WS. Resources can be expensive and take some time to find, but the time you save clicking is tremendous. Good luck.

I ground projectile pistol barrels to Firearms 1, then Projectile Rifle Barrels the rest of the way. It was a lot of clicking, but I didn't do all of it at once, I took my time with it. And while I was grinding, I collected the resources I knew I would need for when I finally did become a MWS.

If you go with PRBs, the cheapest way to get steel is to harvest it yourself; it usually works out to less than 1 cpu. When a really good resource comes along, stop harvesting steel for a while and gather the new uber resource and stockpile as much of it as you can. Buying grinding steel is too damn expensive, even if you only pay 1-2 cpu for it.

Warheads go faster, but unless you're doing some last minute holo-grinding I recommend you take your time with it and build up your resource collection. Also, I recommend going up the Techniques tree next. Once you get Techniques IV, you can make some decent weapons for newbies and sell them on the bazaar.

I mastered artisan in 15 days with no grinding I looked around my server to find an interesting advanced profession that wasn't massively popular on my server and chose WS. After 30 days of producing weapons I have lost a thousands of credits in resources, have gained half a million useless weapons that I can't sell and only have 15k of WCXP. Yesterday I gave up attempting to produce weapons one by one to boost my XP, I bought 10k of resources and setup a few macros to get myself up to 0100...
Thats my story so far and now I read of them nerfing macros, there is no market for crafters who are still learning and its impossible to progress without grinding. Unless the devs seriously rethink WS and the other advanced professions I'm not sure I'm going to be able to go on being a crafter or even playing the game. Killing creatures is fun but only some of the time I don't want to follow the combat profession all of the time.
Has anyone here sucessfully made master WS without grinding and is there any point therefore about me even bothering to continue my subscription to the game? Making weapons slowly, making no money for a year to reach WS doesn't appeal to me and as I said before neither does just combat...

Made 25 decent (for nOObs) DL44's for the bazaar in Mos Eisley today, in fact, found some very good 951 OQ reactive gas, and made some display weapons for my shop-to-be. Still grinding warheads, but it was a nice break. Definitely do techniques, once you have a schematic or two. Seven experimentation points won't let you compete with the big boys, but i figure the nOObs will eat that stuff up (if they can find them in the PAGES of worthless CDEFs in there.) Not big money, but it's sure nice to see some cash inflowsfor once!

A wise weaponsmith once stated "The profession of weaponsmith begins at mastery".

Here are some thoughts.

You will probably not sell many of your weapons along the way. The crafter quests are a fine way to get some compensation for your work, try them.

You will have to invest in resources. They don't have to be good as the end result will be a hit of the practice button.

There are many ways to grind out the profession. That being said, grinding is tedious and only rewarding when you've attained a skill. Do not burn yourself out.

Once you have attained mastery you will not be competitive until you have attained a large cache of quality resources.

Look at the work of others and see where you are in comparison.

Be realistic when you price. Look at who will be using the wepon you make and think about the resources they're likely to have. Novice marksman qualify for D18 pistols but they probably cant afford to buy them at 2500 cr a pop.

You're probably going to have to invest in merchant skills.

Given the choice between style over substance. I'll take a sandwich.

I'll confirm this is certainly possible. I've been selling to new players since I was 0104, and haven't ground a thing since. I've sold every item I've built - I price my DL44s at about 1200cr (they're about 125 max damage and 2.0 speed), DH17s at about 1500 and DLT20s at about 1800. They get eaten up. I have a couple of vendors near Mos Eisley, but I make sure that I always put 25 items on the Mos Eisley Bazaaar as well, they sell faster there (but of course sell out during the night unlike my vendors).

Also, because I'm going up WS really slowly and watching the resource spawns carefully, I can make sure that by the time I'm Master or close that I've got some blinding resources. My stash now is already really good, but has some gaps... soon, though, it will be excellent.

Oh - get the Jenner/Fooman Crafting Tool from the weaponsmith forum on SWGCraft.com, it will save your career!

I like your thinking Dycokac, it may be worth programming one of my extra buttons to do a double double click. Then its only one click per item rather then 4...hmm the possiblities.
