i found a reserve for this gemstone on my server and im wondering, do weaponsmiths need crystals of this type? and is this particular sample any good? oq sucks on it of course, but isn't it true that some schematics dont really need OQ?
thanks for any info!

Crystalline gemstone with good SR is nice for blaster rifle barrels. Can't think of much else. The only thing I know of that specifically requires Vertex gemstone is stun layers for armor.
In the future, you might want to try this site if you want to know if a given resource is useful:

i cant think of any that use that particular gem type, but SR seems to be the most used stat on generic crystalline gems, if someone else can confirm this as there is probably a hardcore smith laughing at me right now...

I think that type of crystalline gemstone is important to armormsiths.Vertex is not a must to weaponsmiths.

Armorsmiths use this to create stun layers. SR and OQ are the crit stats
