What's better, a crappy advanced component, or a really good normal component. I'm new to weaponsmith and am ready to accept your knowledge.

depends. And you can probably figure it out yourself, just check out the stats on both and compare.
Most often, the good normal is prefered to the crappy advanced, 'cause you can get the speed higher, and that's what a lot of people want.
