I know everyone hates the word "Grind" but I will assure you, this is not a holo bit. This is purely a honest move on my part. Right now things are really slow, I have 75% of the material to make most anything in the noive tree of Weaponsmith, but I'm not too sure which item is the best to "grind". So far I have made everything I can atleast 6 or 7 times now.
Any tips out there to help move this along so I won't get bored??

I grinded metal staffs. Or should I say, I ground metal staves? ::Shrugs::
You can get away with using only one resource, plus you can write a fast macro for it and make up for time out of sheer speed rather than high xp per item. I ground out WS in no time with it.
However, WS is more an art form than a profession, so whatever time you save in the grind to master, you will invest in learning the nuances of the craft. it will still take time before your weapons are really saleable. So I suggest that you take the time to learn the craft while you are grinding to master. you will thank yourself later.
Also, when you gather resources, make sure to gather the ones required to make advanced components, particularly the Advanced Blaster Power Handler. You cant make good guns without it.
Advanced Blaster Power Handlers are to Weaponsmiths as Lightsabers are to Jedi. You wont last long without them.
I hope this helps, and good luck with the grind.

There's a good post about the fast-path to WS. Takes 3 rares, but gets you to master really quickly. Once you get there, though, you won't be able to make much. Invest your current time and money in some good harvesters, find someone who'll tell you the 35-40 necessary items to mine, and start looking for the best out there. As a new one spawns in, check it to make sure your stuf is still better. Collecting good resources is the real key to successful WSing. I have a very good client base, even with just 10 exp pts (well, 11 now), because I make really good weapons at really good prices. And it comes from continually upgrading my supply of resources and only using advanced components in my builds. You won't make any money smithing until you're master. So start collecting resources early.

I did WS in under 48 hours ...
Using metal staffs, then switched to advanced rifle barrels .... went very very fast.

You sound like you want to really get into this profession, not grind to Master and then wonder whether you should experiment on damage or range on your Power Hammers... which is great. I've been a WS for about a month, now, and am currently at 1-2-0-4 - haven't gone up a single skill box in just over a week! I just can't handle the grind, it's just not fun... and this is supposed to be a game, right?
The thing is, though - you really need those experimentation points. I mean, you really need them. So you're probably going to have to do at least some grinding, which ever way you look at it. Once you've got x-x-x-4, though, then you can progress in any way you want, grinding projectile (or blaster) rifle barrels, warheads, whatever... or just hand-crafting stuff as best you can and selling it. With 7 experimentation points, you're not going to be able to outperform a MWS who's been collecting resources for ages... but you're going to be able to produce a good deal of middle-of-the-range weapons that many players will still want to buy.
What I've learned though is that above all, the most important thing to look out for as a WS is good quality resources... even a 12-point WS isn't going to be able to do much with 100 OQ metals in their firearms. Just not possible. I currently spend about twice as much time maintaining my harvesters and searching for new resources (both on SWGCraft.com and in-game) as I do building weapons. And until I'm a lot more wealthy and can afford to buy good quality resources in bulk, I reckon it will have to stay that way. Ah well, at least I get to travel the galaxy every now and then to get to spawns of good resources!
