Another quick question: the percentage value in weapon repair tools (96.2% etc.) refers to what exactly? If I use a 96.2% kit then on the best possible success my weapon will be reduced to 96.2% of its original condition? Is that the meaning?

That is not the meaning, although this is by no means an exact science, its a roll......its like a slice, but it supposedly has adjustable chances based on the quality of the repair tool, a MWS gets a bonus, and there are skill tapes to further that bonus. Some people also bleieve a WS standing next to a crafting station gives another bonus. In the end its still a roll.

I see. So basically this percentage is somehow figured one way or the other into some complex formula... By the way, a roll is governed by probability, and probability is actually an exact science branch

Yes, I meant that it wasnt an exact science because there is no dev confirmation on anything i said. just general consensus of the WS community.

Have a WS repair it, and if the stats started to degrade (dmg/speed) already they might not repair back to 100%. Either way you will lose 20% of the max condition 19 times out of 20.

I have a scatter blasser which is in condition 100/900 or similar. I really don't want to destroy it. If I use a 100% weapon repair kit, what are my chances of succeeding? I don't have any skill in weaponsmithing or any other artisan profession.
Should I give this weapon for a weaponsmith for repair or try myself?
Also, are the chances todesroy a weapon (or armor for that matter) while repairingincreased when it's inabad condition (like my 100/900 blaster)? Or is the chance to destroy the same no matter what condition the item is in?
Many thanks,

19 out of 20? So why should I give it to a WS then? Will I have less chance of destroying the item if a WS fix it or what?
Thanks,

Even though repair is borked, I still think a WS has a better chance of not completely destroying it.

Weapon repair is the biggest gamble in the game and one with no set rules unfortunately. Everything we say is essentially based off of player testing, as others have said the devs just don't seem to want to commment on it. If the scatter pistol is that important to you find a master WS, one with a tool belt, it gives +5 to repair, give him your repair tool and say a quick prayer. Having a WS reapir it is essentially hedging your bets, if the gun is not that important do it yourself, you may do just as well as the WS, it seems to be luck more than anything.

I recently looted a +7 weapon repair clothing attachment, what is the ideal skill mod for increasing chances of good repairs- dispise the broken repair system.
I am going back to weaponsmith again since my town's ws left.

No one knows if the repair SEAs have any effect at all.
MWS may have a slightly lower chance of critical failure and the really huge condition loss result, but they don't have a significantly larger chance of minor blemishes over non-MWS.

I would use the master weaponsmith. From what I have noticed in repairing over three hundred weapons I have maybe broken 2 weapons. That is such a small chance its hardly worth thinking, but with a non ws the chances increase on weapon destruction. A master weaponsmith repair usually costs you a 100 condition points off the max of your gun. So your weapon will have a max of 800/800. You will get to repair the weapon three times. Before it will just explode on you being the fourth time is almost a sure failure. I think I have only met one person that said they were able to repair their weapon four times. Never tried a fourth repair myself on either of my characters.
Just go to the MWS if its a good gun no point in takeing a higher risk. It will cost you what a thousand credits at most. A bonus might be that the weaponsmith you ask to repair it can gauge the quality of your weapon. Strike up a conversation on it. Most good weaponsmiths can tell you where your gun falls on the scale.
It is a roll of the dice and either way the odds are in your favor against complete destruction of the weapon. The weaponsmith is just a little better, and if its a very well made gun it deserves the masters touch.
