Thread: Do components matter?
I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times over not only here but on the other crafting boards too but I just have to know... Do the components affect the overall product?
Could I use crap resources to build a schematic of piece a and piece b and throw that into a factory and then use good resources for the gun that piece a and b go into and get just as good a product as I would've if piece a and b were made using the best resources?
And whatever the answer is, that is true for the other crafting professians too, right?
Yes, Our components matter, because they actually have "stats"
the only problem is I don't believe they stack i.e a gun barrel with -3.5 speed and a handle with -3.5 speed = a gun with -.6 speed, not -.7
or am i wrong here guys?
All components with stats will affect the final gun. To see this, make a pistol with an experimented barrel and one without, using the same power handlers in both. The one with the experimented barrel will have better stats because of the barrel.
Components with no visible stats (control units) have no effect on stats.

Is this due to getting 85% on the final combine? Not sure myself as I haven't hit Master yet so only make weapons for my other character and friends and haven't really tracked experimentation though I should probably start soon.
-3.5 + -3.5 = -7 (from 2 subs)
-7 * 85% = -.595 (on final combine)
Keep in mind there are hidden fractions on components too. I discovered this a long time ago when makign advanced power handlers using identical materials except for the ostrine ore. One ostrine was ~250 OQ the other one was ~400 OQ. Both produced powerhandlers that *seemed* identical 19,38 -0.38....however when using these powerhandlers to make guns, on certain weapons (not all weapons) I'd notice a difference of 1 damage point. Since then I've seen this in many of the components I've made and in final guns. There are always hidden fractions, and if you want to make the best weapons possible, always use the best materials possible.

Always use Advanced versions of components when possible for best results. For example, try to use Advanced Blaster Power Handlers instead of regular Blaster Power Handlers, etc.
Advanced isn't always better. The advanced scope sucks and the advanced blaster barrels decrease speed significantly for a minor damage increase. I don't use them.

I dont agree with that, it's just harder to get high OQ enough in specific resources for adv scopes compared to basic ones
I'm using adv scopes with all my weapons, they're +2 HAM, +5% wounds and +18 range, and since a basic scope experimented to +0 HAM still adds 1 HAM I think it's definitly worth 1 more HAM for 3% wounds and about 5 more ideal range
basic scopes themselves suck if you cant experiment them to 90%+, it's just harder to get them for advscopes but theywork fine IMO
ThoughI agree that advanced scopes don't suck (just need to wait a loooong time for the right resources) it is a misconception that even a 0 HAM regular scope will always add 1 HAM.This goes back to the hidden fractions thing I posted earlier in this thread. I have scopes that add 0 HAM to MOST guns and the ones that they do add something to, they only add it to like one pool. You just need to have stuff with high enough OQ to pull it off (Im using 998 OQ metal, 1000 OQ polymer, 950ish OQ copper/gem)

I'm sorry, but your wrong imho, ADV scopes do not suck, the scope itself i have is +38 or higher, I don't recall the stats exactly
That makes my republic blaster rarely miss, and all rifles/carbines with a hefty ideal range, even greater, my personal carbines usually have a +40 if not a +50 as i'm kneeling or prone, while the target is moving, quite useful, and 1 shot kills are quite nice, then again everyone should have 2 guns:
1 for using specials
1 for normal use
