Thread: Melee Weapon Enhancements

I am not sure if there is something I am missing or anything, but I just became a Master Weaponsmith and I noticed that the Melee weapon enhancements that are out there... they well... just plain suck. The rancour teeth have way too big of a drawback on the speed and HAM costs of the weapons and the vibro weapon enhancements that can be looting, obvoiusly only work on vibroweapons.

This leaves out enhancements for all the normal swords and other melee weapons. What is with that? Is there any sort of plan to add more in the near future, because this is kinda annoying that I can make uber-ranged weapons with krayt tissue and all kinds of other things, but I can't offer any really deadly 2-handed swords or cleavers or curved swords.

You may as well consult a magic 8-ball - it'll be as good as any guess

Bottom line, we don't know anything confirmed. We are told neat things are in the pipe, we get an obscure post (See Thunderheart's "Art of War" post in Development forums I think), we get a bunch of hand waving and vague mutterings. Melee weapons definitely need an enrichment on all levels, from schematic base, to powerup variety, to neat loot enhancers.

All we can do is just sit tight and watch the hand play out.

This is a copy of a post I made in my server forum regarding a player's question about rancor teeth. I hope this info helps.

I answer this about once a day in game, so hopefully some people will read this here on the forum.

Currently Rancor Teeth act as swords cores, and they can go into, well, swords.

They CANNOT go into hammers, batons, VKs, Polearms, etc.

PROBLEM: Rancor Teeth will actually make a sword WORSE. the stats of your base rancor tooth are Min:5 Max:50 Speed: 1.0 (note that this number is positive, not negative) with something like 20/20/20 HAM costs. The problem with this is that the tooth actually replaces (not enhances) the regular sword core components that WS use in their swords. Off the top of my head, the stats of my Factory made Advanced sword cores are around Min: 43 Max: 43 Speed: -0.59 3/3/3 HAM. As you can see from comparing these numbers, the rancor tooth would add about 7 Max dmg to a sword...but would then lower min dmg by 38, increase the speed by about 1.6 and make the HAM pretty nasty (I think the range mods are worse too).

EXCEPTION: If someone were to find an (Exceptional) or (Legendary) batch of teeth, these reportedly have the possibility to have worthwhile stats. Though I have yet to hear of any of these on gorath, there is a possibility there are some out there. Reports from other servers claim there are some with up to +300 to max dmg.

THE ONLY MELEE ENHANCEMENT: The "High powered"(~+20 max dmg), "High frequency"(~+5 wound)or "Finely Tuned" (~-0.20 speed) Vibro motors. These items can be used in any melee weapon with the word vibro in the name. This includes the vibroblade, vibroknuckler, vibro axe (requires 3 identical), long vibro axe (requires 4 identical), vibro lance (requires 3 identical)AND the Regular lance as well. They CANNOT be used in anything other than these weapons.

The sad thing of course is that these enhancements really don't add too much to the higher dmg items such as the LVA and VL and that they are rarely found in very large batches. Basically they are best for VKs (since it seems like half the galaxy is a TKA of some kind anyway) or maybe a vibroblade.

Thoguh I hope everyone finds this info useful, I also hope it calls some attention to the need for melee enhancements. I bring the issue up on the WS forums, but I think melee users themselves should also bring it up to their correspondents (though im sure many of you have already) since rancor teeth have been busted for months on end now.

And in the meantime, keep on hoping =)

I will bring it up, I also happen to be a heavy swordsman... one of the reasons I made this post to begin with: It woulddefinatly be in my best interest and other melee users best interestif they added these, and I appreciate your comments and support.

As I am not WS, forgive me if I can't recall if they were vibro blade units or vibro motor units...either way:

Ahkva (spelling?) - the badass Nightsister in the cave on Dath that has like 3-400k HAM dropped two "Nightsister Vibro" units.

I took them to a WS that I trust, and 1 unit yielded a speed increase (standard damage for VK on my server, about 40-140, but speed was 1.7 before slicing.) I was a Master Smuggler at the time (1-2 weeks ago?) and sliced it down to a 1.4 or 1.2, i don't really recall. I don't even think it was a very good slice. I gave it to my in-game wife who was levelling unarmed and TK novice. I think this one also had a pretty massive wound %, over 40-45%.

The other unit was a "moderate success" on the combine...not so good. It was a damage bonus yielded by this one, but not very good because of the combine. (may have even been a moderate failure, i wasn't paying the greatest of attention at the time). Anyways, after my damage slice of around 30%, this unit is the one i use now... It's a 2.1, which at TKM, I don't care about. The HAM is about 5 lower across the board, but the minimum damage is what i like. this unit, sliced off a crappy combine is now a 76-177 damage range. It is a bit weaker on the top end than my other VK's, but much better on the minimum range, and the lower HAM cost is nothing to scoff at.

So anyways...I'm pretty sure she will drop 2 every time she is killed....so that's what i came here to tell you guys.

Hope this is helpful,
