Greetings to you veteran Weaponsmiths out there. Now, It's always been my understanding that quality ingredients makes quality products. Indeed, this applies to every manufacturing schmetic, SWG or not. My character resides in the Ahazi server and I have noticed, besides the rare spawning of certain specific resources, the quality that accompanies such resources are not even up to par. Based on the manufacturing ideology stated above, I ignore this kind of stuff and end up with nothing for the whole day. I have been a Master Weaponsmith for about 2 weeks now. In that time span, I have collected, in bulk, 7 types of resourcesout of the 60+ I'm supposed to have. I've seen the availability of a lot of resources at one time but after sampling them, all I get are bulks of disappointments and frustration. Now, is there a vicious cycle I'm supposed to be aware of? I mean, I see these resources out there but just by looking at their stats it's not even worth mining. To me, it'slike a joke though I'm not laughing kind of deal now. I would like to know if there's something to be patient for. Will there be a resource that sucked yesterday but immaculate the next? Or is this a dilemna that all Weaponsmiths have to deal with? Please enlighten a young master onhis quest for knowledge. Thank you in advance.

It took me 2 months to gather every single resource I needed to make every weapon available. And I'm just now, 4 months after hitting MWS,getting to the point where I have large quantities (500k to 1 million units) of the very best resources available. It's important that you learn the characteristics of specific resources so you don't pass something up that's actually quite good. Case in point, if you see a Plumbum Iron with a Conductivity of 57 and an OQ of 943, you might think that it's crappy and pass it up when in fact a Plumbum with those stats is quite good based on past spawns. The same is true of Rhodium Steel, Polonium Iron and many more Weaponsmith resources out there. Swgcraft is your friend!

The best advice I can offer is to collect every type of resource you need regardless of quality. Once you have all you need, you can just concentrate on upgrading the resources. It may take a while to make the best weapons, but you can at least make everything. There's a market out there for good weapons that aren't 'The Best". I looked at the weapons and prices of the established Masters, and generally sold my weapons at half price since the stats weren't as good. As I have found better resources, I have slowly raised my prices to the going market rates.

I found it also helps to keep track of all my resources in a spreadsheet. After seeing the stats of the resources of the same type next to each other, you will see the stat ranges for each particular resource. It iseasier to see if a resource is good or not, once you know the general stat range of each resource. Playing the resource game is what makes or breaks a Weaponsmith. It will take alot of time to do it well.

Honestly I fear you'll be mad when you realize how many resources you missed during 2 weeks, asBubo said just mine every specific resource you need and upgrade when better qual spawns, and as Maya said some resource that seem crappy is actually very good, poor qual yes but very good for you to use

Note that OQ is the only real variable stat that can go from 1 to 1000 on any resource, all others have a range based on resource type, for example only some coppers can reach 1000 CD when some can only go to 850 and no alum, even less steel and iron can ever reach it but coppers have the worst SR and UT and some irons and steels can reach 1000 in both stats

So if for ranged weapons you're looking for 1000 OQ and 1000 CD keep an eye on polysteel and platinite coppers, they're your best chance but for other resources you'll have to know what is the stat range to know if it's good or not

Also note that it can happen that a resource doesnt spawn at all for 3 months or more, after such a while any qual is welcome eh

So just see it that way: woaaa this axidite iron has a crappy UT..........you dont care cause if you wanna make adv prof feed mechanism you'll need it along with quadranium steel and anyway, as crappy as it is it might be the best that spawned on your server, or best for 4 months

so conclusion is : you need it ? you dont have better ? MINE IT or BUY IT

I have a little different viewpoint on your plight. I made Master Weaponsmith on Sunday. I have been leveling weaponsmith since early November. I could have achieved Master sooner but instead I invested over 1M credits in power and mining. I leveled to Master last weekend when I realized that I had learned my craft and that I had accumulated enough quality resources over nearly 3 months of miningto compete. As a result, I'm finding that my weapons are either very close to or (in some cases) exceed those made by other Master Weaponsmiths on Intrepid. Now I need to produce enough inventory to officially open for business.

So where do you stand now? You need to startmining everything you don't have. If you don't like the stats, mine it anyway. If next weeks is better, mine it again. If it gets even better again the following week (this happened on Intrepid with Polysteel Copper and a couple of steels) you mine the heck out of it once again. I still haven't seen a spawn of Alantium Ore on Intrepid and last night I was finally able to find a stack to purchase (at the cost of most of my remaining credits). The other advice I can give you is to get a second account for the time it takes you to catch up. You are way behind right now and the extra lots a second provides could allow you to play catch up.
