I've been having ongoing inventory problems for the past few weeks, generally consisting of items disappearing or not transferring properly from one place to another (i.e. inventory to backpack, bazaar to inventory, inventory to vendor, etc.)
Just now, however, I encountered the worst problem yet. I moved some items around in my shop, organizing them in backpacks like most smiths do so I could keep track of everything. I hung them on the wall and left my shop to visit a factory. When I returned, many of the items I had moved had reappeared in their former position and several bags of items, some of them extremely rare had DISAPPEARED ENTIRELY. Before panicking, I exited the game and logged back in, hoping that would make them reappear. That hasn't happened. I'm currently out several million in resources, as well as some rare weapon components (krayt tissues, schematics, etc.) I'm hoping that the stuff returns the next time the server reboots, but if it doesn't, I'm planning to quit this game.
All of the exploits, all of the bugs... nothing else compares to not knowing if you're stuff is going to be there from one minute to the next. It detracts from any possible enjoyment in the game. So I'm posting this to bring light to the issue. I've read that it's a big problem on Corbantis. Well, from my vantage point, it's a big problem on Starsider too. Have any of you had similar problems, especially of late? Has there been any feedback from the developers on the subject?

Fortunately, my stuff reappeared this time. Still, it's pretty disturbing to hear suggestions like "Don't store things of importance in your house." Not that I disagree with your advice, but I can't think of a better way to illustrate that this is still a beta product.

How about safety deposit? Do I really feel like running 1/2 way across town to get something? Nope. In my Inv? Right... It _might_ be possible to do something like keep most common items on me between inv and backpack, but alas, I have to take off the pack to put on my WS toolbelt... so where do you keep stuff 'of importance' (which is basically every resource I have).
Hehe, welcome to the heart-ache that every crafter faces
The reason I don't store things of importance in houses is there are multiple bugs that cause items to vanish. Also the devs are in the middle of trying to fix them (I hope), and this makes it a doubly bad time to risk it. When the game code is being worked on, best to steer clear. If you'd like to test one of these bugs try storing something in your house for a few days in a bag, then pick it up and run about 1000m away and watch it vanish from your inventory. There are also a few secondary bugs like incorrect backpack item count that are caused by house storage. Houses are just too unstable at this point in the games development...... yah, I know it is live.
The bank box is pretty stable, although I have seen several times since starting SWG (more than 10) where my bank was totally empty for several hours. I guess they were having database problems at these times. I've never lost anything permanently while storing in the bank.
Factories have been the most stable in my experience over the last 6 months. There are stories about them disappearing occasionally but I've never seen this myself and have been using multiple factories for ages. The stories I have heard usually resulted in the factory returning later or were probably just destruction due to running out of maintenance. I always have at least 2 months worth of money in all my factories.
So all up I try to avoid house storage, especially if you are running vendors in the house as that seems to only make things worse.

I got an easy way for you to stop worrying about stuff disappearing... don't get rich and have uber items.
My most valuable thing would cost me 200k to replace
