There more things I see coming into the game for crafting, the more it's all about loot components now. I'm thinking back to the days of beta and in the beginning of the game, when crafting was more fun for me. Somewhere along the line though, between then and the current state of weaponsmithing, I've really started losing my love for it though.
To me, crafting, and weaponsmithing especially, used to be more of an art. Now it's dependant on huge stockpiling of resources, skill enhancing tapes, and loot...mostly about loot though. The stats on the loot have become more important than the quality of resources and number of experimentation points you have in some cases (I mean, with some of the things we can craft and gated at 6 or 7 experimentation points in damage/speed, does 50 more condition with skill tapes really matter?).
Maybe I'm just nostalgic to the "good'ole days" but, to me crafting now seems more based on the looters luck than our skill as crafters. Just curious if anyone shares the same sentiments out there.

i agree totally, its got to the stage where mastering the prof isnt good enough, you then need to spend 20+ million credits on skill tapes. I only use loot in special cases (unless a customer want anything special and they supply the loot), like my recently completed scythe with a max damage of 325 and speed of 2.0 unsliced, but i agree, its got to the point where you not only have to be a master weaponsmith, but also have spent the million on resources and loot. So where does that leave new mws? They just spent a week or more grinding the prof and now they dont sell anything because they cant afford the loot and tapes, i dont think thats the way it should be and i decided not to buy tapes just for that reason. (Looted a few though lol, but that doesnt count)

I have to disagree I dont think most customers could tell the difference between a 10 point smiths weapons and a 12 point........and ANY weaponsmith could make a healthy living off just selling unenhanced weapons. It is your choice to play the loot game or not.

I don't bother with the skill tapes personaly (i do have a +6 to weapons assembly thanks to a guildee tho)
On Scylla, it's become a who has the weapons thing. The Byrothsis crystaline gemstone is a little over due, and stun batons are selling for millions because they are so scarce.
But I've enjoyed some 1000 SR steel spawns in the last month or two, my melee stuff is great!

I completely disagree.
I rarely make loot-component items, because the loot is so damn expensive.
So I makehealthy living just selling decent weaponry.
the only SEAs I have are 2 +1 Weapon Repair, and a +1 Weapon Assembly. All of which I paid near enough nothing for.
Conversly, I can get Acklay Venom pretty damn cheap. I just have a word with the guy running the auction (no, that set of 4 700pt Venoms is NOT worth 100k minimum ...... *sigh*), and I pick them up cheap, because no-one else bids on them...... Yum..... 3k and up C22s.. *grin*

Being a crafter now is kinda lame. People can go out and loot better weapons. Why should I bother?
As for lootable components and schemas....im a crafter...and have no guild, never have...
Master Artisan 73 pts
master WS 63 pts
Master merchant 63 point (25 minimum i think for vendors i would need and advertising)
199 points used....
so..where can i get enough points to master a elite profession and get descent loot components? I cant...
So..i am forced to pay outragous prices for these items...upping my asking price only to be accused of raking in milions off their hard work....
Hrm....
oh..to add to it...prolly 80% of my time is spent hunting out resources spots most likely blocked by cities or water.
All so i can be told id rather get a NS lance or this or that....
So, I agree. The crafting profession has taken a hit.
make sure you have earmuffs on when JTL comes out or that huge sucking noise will deafen ya...
sucking noise from all the crafters trying to get back into a profession to make money again and leaving their current profession.

Frankly, it's getting to the point where theloot is worth more thanthe weapon that can be made with it.
After all, if I go out and loot some fabu krayt tissue, do you think I'm crazy enough to waste it by putting it in a gun? Bah! I'm selling it. And I'm a Weaponsmith too. And dont even get me started on NS motors...Or Gorax? Heh, better to frame it and put it on your wall.
I turn anice profit selling only baseline stuff. If you have the right resources, you can develop quite a following. And if you keep your vendors well stocked and provide good service, you will have return business. You wont need loot... ever.
Besides, there are a lot of great high-end smiths on Wanderhome. I respectfully leave the loot market to them.
Just leave me everyone else

< People can go out and loot better weapons. >
Really?
I make 3.8k Rocket Launchers. I have about 20 in stock, between two vendors.
Please. Let me know, when you find *20* looted rocket launchers that exceed those stats.
Then, I guess, I'll just go make *more*.
C'mon people, try not to be dumb. Sure, a weapon that greatly exceeds crafted ones is looted. How often? 1 a week? A month? And how many crafted weapons did they burn to get the *1* looted uber weapon of doom?
Get over it.....

Sorry, meant to deal with this too.....
Drop from Master Artisan to 4040 Artisan (there's 29 freed up)
Drop Master Merchant to the 'minimum' you need (there's 38 freed up)
Add that to the 51 you currently have free, and there's 118 points to play with.
So, well, you *can*, you just choose not to.
Damn the devs for making you interact with people. Damn their hearts........

And when they do finally manage to loot an uber-weapon, they sure as heck aren't going to use it for anything. They'll either save it to use for PvP, hang it on a wall or sell it for a lot of money. There's plenty to be made selling standard weapons.

So you make good/great weapons but that doesn't change the fact that the opportunity to do more is limited by schematic loots drops. We have a static list of weapons that we can presently craft. A number of these weapons are quite frankly broken.Presently theloot drop schematics don't do a thing for our community. We don't have a fresh schematic once we find the Geno blaster etc etc etc we still continue to have the same old weapons with the same old problems. Once we obtain these schematics they should be integrated into our data pads.
There is a difference between a loot drop and an enhancement. Enhancements are something which we can opt out of if we choose. The opportunity to make 10's-100's of thousands is something which we would all like but we don't need.
SEA's do little but provide for people to fix mistakes, add a few charges to a heavy weapon or improve the condition/accuracy of the weapon in question. The present efficiency experimentation system is practically useless so there is little point in investing experimentation in this area. Two points are nice but they really don't matter when gated resources are brought into the picture. Had the previous crafting change been implemented then maybe the two points would have meant something. Then of course most of us would have quit because we couldn't compete with twelve point smiths.
The problem is loot drops reward one play style while limiting the opportunity of another. People who want to play crafters shouldnt have be penalized because ofthe fact that certain player insist on having loot to bring meaning to their play style. We are presented with many challenges by the fact that we have to be committed to our craft while others merely hunt, collect mission payouts and harvest creatures. Crafting in some respects is a job which we take great pride in and we should not have to rely on others to excell in our craft.
