Thread: Are Weaponsmiths no longer required?
Personally I think most things depend on your server...
Does your server have 3-5 full taped FS weaponsmiths?
I have found that my server is unbalaced in professions... lots of WS and AS... then very few DE etc.. might just want to ask around on galaxy forum.
Also trails of Obi is around the corner.. this can bring great new weapons and help... or bring great new non-craftables and hurt.
Weaponsmith isn't what it once was, but it is still required, there are actually only a few weapons that come out of kashyyyk and with good loot most can be crafted better than the looted version.
Yes, Weaponsmith is still a viable trade and still somewhat entertaining, but dont' expect it to be as complex and fun as it was pre-cu. Because it was somewhat simplified it's also not quite the money maker that it once was though it's not too bad.
If you're 12pt, if you know what you're doing, and if you have the best resources out there on your server, you still sell even the stock weapons. If you also know your business (what to sell, when to sell), then you also make money.
A good knowledge on both what each melee/ranged profession requires is also a good start. I, however, lack the sufficient knowledge of melee professions for example, and had no clue what they require, but I slowly am starting to learn it (my main used to be a TKM and I used to use a vibroknuckler in pre-CU, but never did anything post-CU).
It's still required, my many. Not everyone has the money to get good weapons made. That's why, when even the customer brings his own enhancements, I charge somewhere around 500k-750k to get a double-capped weapon assembled.
And no, you don't need to be a FS crafter.
And why would I charge so much?
Because if everyone starts to get good weapons, using their own looted enhancements, they will all ADK it and never require our services, ever again. However, if they just grind out the cash to get it built, that's another story.
The ADK is a game breaker.
Weapons which are quest rewards are still in some case superior to what can be crafted and the ever increasing number of looted components just drives the nails harder into the coffin. I have been a WS for almost 2 years and I have already decided to hang my tools up for the last time.
Between the resource buffs and the phat loots crafting is slowly being reduced to the mindless generic crap of every other main stream MMORPG. The crafting system in SWG was second to none but is slowly turning into 2nd rate.
AS was hit up first and you can bet your ass the rest of the crafting professions are not far behind.

Correct, and EVERYONE starts out as a newb. People grinding new profs need low-level weapons.

Personally, I disagree here...If you have the ability to be a better crafter, why not take advantage. My Original WS went all Jedi on me (still pissed about my decision), so I made my unlock alt the WS. First thing I did after grinding MWS was to start getting glowy...absolutely worth the time involved.

Well you can thank exploits for this one not the actual adk idea...

I personally stock up on the weirdest and lowest CLweapons and sell quite a bit. But I still have a kick-ass arsenal on HLR and ALRs (especially with the 920OQ Irolunn I bought for 2, yes, 2cpu the other day on Eclipse).
NIIIICE!!!!
My biggest score ever was Class 3 solid fuel. It hadn't spawned on Sunrunner in the entire time I was a wepsmith and I had only been able to find about 5k of crap on random vendors.
One day i'm checking this guy's 'high quality' resource vendor and see a 100k stack of the server's best ever for 1 cpu!!! Needles to say I snatched it up. I figured he probably meant to put it at 10, possibly 100 cpu (he was always waaay overpriced), so I didn't use any of it for a couple weeks, waiting to get a message from him. He never contacted me, So I was finally in the vibro business!
