2.100% for factory experience. Fixed (approximately) 2 weeks after harvester bug.
Just a minor point. I didn't benefit from the 100% factory experience so I am not biased toward it, but I think it is highly unfair to call this an exploit in any way or form.
What did you expect them to do? Stop using factories? Stop making weapons that require identical components? Sorry, I can't make you a Laser Rifle because it's giving me too much xp?
I envy that they got the benefit of this quirk but I certainly don't hold it against them.
lol actually the macro thats out now is 3x faster than waiting on a factory .. a single factory. The 'exploit' techincally was some beta players knew it was supposed to be 25%, discovered it was giving 100% and got their guild to place 10 and 11 factories. They were master in under 2 days. Then posting a big document on how to master weaponsmith in 24hrs - instant nerf the next day. Its not really an exploit I guess, but the beta players that knew it was supposed to be 25% and got 10 factories because they knew it was going to get fixed definitely took advantage of a bug which borders in definition w/ exploiting. I would have been fine if the fix was merely 100% from a single factory and capping XP so additional factories werent compounding the XP. The devs apparently claimed it was supposed to be 25%, was 25% in beta, and somehow mysteriously it returned to 100% just in time for release. Its not the first bug to return /cough invisibilty /cough after getting squashed.
Not only did we dig up an old post but i had forgotten all about the factory debate .. lol
Dealing with bonehead customers.......as a MASTER Architect, I have dealt with attitude and abuse the whole time re: prices. I DO NOT negotiate. I am more expensive? Well maybe I want to actually have a profit margin!!!!! Sell items that will bring in more money that just outright selling the resources. I am not tied to a vender either which has allowed me to focus more on weapons. The architect field is loaded with undercutters.......I tell rude customers to go find them at the nearby starport. So I am well versed.
I have a Bonehead Customer Zero Tolerance game style. I do not feel guilty either. I have not had any problem customers to the point of banning them from my shops....yet. I have enough associates and goodcustomers to sell to without the grief. I can't wait until my weapons cover all operating costs so I can dump architecture.
LOL! I love it when a bonehead customer gives me attitude and huffs out of my shop, then secretly sneaks back and buys the item. It appears to be an M.O. thing!

I don't think it ever went down to 25% in beta, I remember they said it would a few weeks beforeit ended, but then they put in the patch that completely broke factories. When they fixed that I'm pretty sure it was still 100% and remained that way until the patch several weeks after release.
The bottleneck back then was resources - even if you did all your grinding by hand with no macros, PMEs still wouldn't be able to pull enough steel to maintain a decent rate unless your guild had enough people and money to plant 20+ steel PMEs per crafter.

Specialize in Munitions. If someone asks you for a gun, tell them sorry, you make grenades, RL's, etc.
Factories can easily run for 1-3 days giving you time to do whatever you wish. That's why I do what I do...
Wow, some great posts in here. Also, HaHa, those were the good ol' frustrating days... crafting on rori, emptying factory crates, etc. I've been a Master Weaponsmith not too far after Zephabias. Part of the delay in the rush was that I initially started out as a marksman... found out about artistian a week later and spent a week figuring it all out.. finally realized I didn't need Dom Arts 4 to grind to Novice Weaponsmith (yeah I was slow then)... finally got the hang of it all... did a little research and tried to mine all the necessary resources while grinding my way to master (without practicing.. I was already 3 40 4 when practicing was put into effect).. lost many XP and resources in Rollbacks (I qualified for Melee 4 twice, trained in it twice, and had a rollback shortly after that erased BOTH the XP and the Resources.. never got reimbursed for those either)
Finally I made it to master, I loaded my vendor up with scouts, played with a pricing scheme... when weapons sold too fast, raise prices a bit on the next batch.Got help from resident masters and almost masters(Beth'ira, Craysus, Ace, Merett, Zephabias, Lafyl, Drakos, ... just to name a few) on pricing, quality, resources, credits, customers, the whole works.
Now, I've been a master for quite some time. I wear my "Master Weaponsmith" tag quite proudly, because I've put a lot of time and effort into the craft. All my stuff is named "by Eliss" .. now I'm looking to the horizons... I want to play the game a bit .. participate in a few guild hunts (yeah I'm pistoleer 0 2 4 2) and I kid you not.. I was Krayt hunting with the guild a week ago and I get a spatial tell from a toon asking me "do you make good weapons".(yes i was wearing the "master weaponsmith" tag at the time) I have a hot key button that now says"I just make butter knives" Every day I log in I get dumb questions. EverydayI get asked when the next batch will be out (when there are still some for sale on the vendor) Everyday I get asked what are the stats on X, what is the price for Y, etc. After about 4 months of all of that... It's begining to wear thin on me and I'm beginning to look at retirement as a good thing.
I'm now at the point where I am looking for an apprentice or a partner to craft with to ease the burden of having to craft a wide range of weapons. To all you novices that are reading this... There is a TON of money to be made and it's called specialization. My suggestion to you is to find a tired Master and offer to team with them.If it were me, I'd happily send people to your shop or if you have no merchant skills, I'd sell the stuff for you on my vendors. You do not need to be a Master to make the "best" stuff out there.. many of the scematics are gated by resource quality. Also some scemas (can anyone say Rocket Launchers) are such a PIA to make and require such HUGE resource quantities and LONG factory times to make, that no one wants to burn their precious stock of phrik, ostrine, Ehea, Daceworth, on a weapon that has charges... and is basically worthless after 32 shots.
Lastly, there are two things that are keeping me in the fold at this time... 1) my guild and 2) the hope that better weapons will be added and that weaponsmiths might have a quest or rare loot drop only for master weaponsmiths that will open up a rare schema for use.(similar to the Armorsmith RIS armor quest)
Here's what is happening to me, Ive been a weaponsmith since the beginning (of course it took me awhile to grind up) and lately Im just fried. I dont even have all that much money....I have a nice stockpile of resources a nice workshop and a store...but I can hardly even MAKE myself place a harvester anymore...the constant search for resources, the stress of "OMG some good ostrine is finally up and I HAVE to get on it ASAP" just finally killed all the enjoyment for me..so I got a second account and lately just make weapons for my friends and my up and coming BH alt.. I cant really bear to let the WS go...as he represents months of intense effort..... but anymore when I log my WS on I cringe when I start getting the tells...
I thought i had found a solution in just selling a few high end enhanced weapons (Krayt etc.) but with the new Krayt Dragon ham the tissues are getting so rare that Ill have to expend mass quanities of effort to aquire any so im back to burnout city. (from what ive been hearing it takes a group of 20 now to take down a dragon, now theres a fun way to spend time, fighting over loot in a huge group)
I'm trying to find a way to make it fun again....maybe Ill just have to specialize in one type of gun and make the best ones possible...but I just cant see myself hunting high and low day after day for that one elusive resource anymore...my willpower for that has turned to ash
