I will keep my main character (MBH) but will probably end up cancelling my alt (12 point Weaponsmith). The new crafting situation is just pathetic. The weapons weren't ruining the game it was the inbalance of the professions that was making it hard to compete as a Ranged Fighter.

I will likely be leaving. It's not set in stone yet -- my account is still active -- but I'm leaning that way.
Unlike some of you, I became a weaponsmith because of the money. My original goal was to be a filthy rich neutral who could use that cash to fund other projects -- upcoming crafters, fun player events, etc. That morphed somewhat over time, and by the time Tempest had been live for 8 months I finally had my shop set up the way I wanted, with one of the most comprehensive product lines on the server (and a web site to boot).
Between my vendors and my loot-crafted weapon auctions I probably grossed about a billion credits (give or take a few million) from last April on... roughly a year. I certainly don't have that much in my account anymore; most of that got parlayed into loot enhancers or gifts for my Jedi or guildies. But I'd say I had a fairly successful business.
Along the way I came to appreciate the challenge of weapon crafting in SWG. Some people will tell you that it was all about maxing damage. To some extent, that's true. But there was more to it. It was about learning how to best experiment certain things; about the resource game; about continually pushing the limits of what was conventionally accepted as achievable. Trying to make that 1.5 speed flamer or 500 max damage T-21.
What I've seen of the CU indicates to me that we'll now have to combat hard caps on certain things: most certainly damage and speed, but potentially others as well (wound percentage... gimme a break). Having already achieved great success as an entrepreneur in-game, making truly amazing weapons was pretty much all there was left. And that is now apparently going away.
I began playing SWG specifically to own and operate my own WS business in this fashion. I wanted to play in a completely free-market economy system and see how it went. I had a tremendous amount of fun, and I'm sorry to see it going away. SWG will soon become a game that I'm not sure I'll enjoy anymore, and that saddens me. I hope for the best... but fear the worst.
Best luck and wishes to everyone, whether you stay or go. The WS profession has been tons of fun, and I've enjoyed it immensely. I hope it retains it's same allure and challenge and fun after the CU.

Felton, you're the man as far as WS go on Tempest. Better than Bastilla, Jei, Champ, Eagle, and even me. The way that you ran your business and keep the production going was awesome. Something that I was never able to bring myself to do. I had fun with WS and crafting cutom weapons over time, but fort me the game was about combat. And with the new system, combat just isn't fun. Its more like sitting in the dentist chair and having a root canal with no novacaine.
My WS account got canceled over the weekend and I don't expect my jedi account to last much past the CU release.
Hope to see you in the other game sometime.

Not a flame at all, but do you find that acceptable? That we carry on paying 10 quid (15 bucks, 1000 dubloons etc) a month while SOE fix what is essentially a beta of a new game? Cos I don't.. hence why I am gone unless the remaining days of my account trying out the CU make me go,this is great,I really wanna stay. CU needed.. yes. Total new system and essentially a new game.. hmmm, debatable. Screwing over long term vets and making their skills and equipment worthless.. unethical at least, and p**s poor PR. Making US pay to do their Beta testing.. SOE must be laughing all the way to the bank.

they have one month to get it right, otherwise I'm gone.
A month? My god man when did you start playing? They have said that it will be refined in the months to come.

Staying, for a while at least. I can't understand leaving before at least giving it a chance.
I've been a WS for a year or so and must admit things don't look too promising. It's the crafting and the economy I stay in the game for, my Jedi and my total combat toon are fun but aren't reason enough to stay. If crafting becomes too easy (which it's looking like at the moment) then i'm off.
With SOE now apparently sanctioning account and item selling I won't cancel my account, i'll sell it and not feel even a pang of guilt about doing it. I've never really sold anything i've gathered ingame (i'm a hoarder by nature) so it will be worth something to someone, if only for the credits in the bank.
