Thread: Well after a lot of testing. Base DPS means nothing. Read inside.
DPS does not include Specials. Specials go above what the DPS of the weapon states. That is common sense and common knowledge.
If you want to truly test out DPS of a weapon get a log parser and fight the same level of mob. Fight it with one weapon using only the bare minimum of specials (allowing most of your hits to be non special hits) and then fight with a different weapon of different dps using the same exact specials and number of specials. You will see a change in the DPS.
Something people don't seem to understand is that you can't do special's non-stop anymore like you could before the CU. I personally use very little in the way of specials when I am solo'ing mobs 2-4 levels above me. Therefore DPS does matter IF you are looking at maximizing what you can and can not do.
But from my experience grouping 90%+ of the people on my server are so stuck in the way things used to be that they can no longer understand that groups post-cu work differently. You can't keep spamming specials. A group has 1 MA(This is a melee that is holding agro of the mob) 1-2 Healers (who are suppose to focus first and foremost on keeping the MA alive) and the rest are DPS. However If those that are DPS are doing nothing but spamming specials they will out agro the MA which will mean slower exp growth and greater risk of people dieing.
Sorry if you disagree. These are my thoughts and if you would like to discuss them more please by all means contact me by PM.
If you don't believe that speed under 2 works I think there's a fairly simple solution: Get a weapon with about 1.8 modded speed for you, put a speed pup on it, and do the following test with and without the speed pup.
Attack a player or something that you can fire a large number of shots for as long as you can while keeping your action up. Don't use auto attack, alternate your attacks. This opens up the chance for some human error but, this is how people fight, and it's quite obviously going to be faster. When you are done look at the combat log, look at how many seconds have elapsed since your first attack, and count your number of attacks. Divide the total time by the number of attacks to find your average time in between shots.
Do this several times with sets of as many attacks as possible. Try it with different weapons also, and compare how the modded dps relates to the number of attacks you can get off. See if lower modded speed weapons do actually hit faster.
The results I obtained from doing this many times with many different weapons is that speed really does matter at all values. You can believe me or not, but this isa test that's at least worth trying.

I tested my dl44xt w/o skillmod clothes on autoattacking (ranged hit) a picket. It did 668 damage each hit, 8 attacks in 17 seconds.I tested my dl44xt w/ skillmod clothes (+13 speed +25 accuracy) on an identical mob and dealt 772 damage each hit, 8 attacks in 14 seconds. That shows you that speed mods work, that speed below 2.0 works and that accuracy can be a huge factor.
See, now this is a good argument - actual numeric results!
Very interesting that +25 accuracy did a little over 100 more damage per shot... You dealt 800 more damage in 3 less seconds. That's pretty significant if you ask me!
That's significant sure but it still doesn't prove what he says it does. All he has shown is that either accuracy and speed mods help. Without testing each mod individually it is impossible to tell which helped the most. The accuracy or the speed mod.
He has definitely not shown that weapons need to be under 2.0 in speed like he claims.
Of course this is all bs unless he shows us a combat log with timestamps to prove his numbers. Otherwise who's to say he didn't pull the numbers out of his ass.
i did a small sample test a while back the basic summary was that 'actual' fire speed = 0.54 x "mod speed" +1 this isa little rough but at speeds lower 2.0 sec it works as a rough estimate - importantly for ranged/placed being used alternatly. though from the work staveeno's done over on the Game Guide Forum then there may well be an easy link with this forumula to all other attacks ...just need my maths head on. and a little time

These is not based on cooldown skills. Fractions of a second mean nothing its either every 1 second or 2. According to timestamp.
if you will notice ppl who have modded speeds under 1.0 they will show up concurrently as 2 attacks during the same second on timestamps. So what does that tell you?
