Thread: weapon experimentation
Key:
DMax: Max Damage
DMin: Min Damage
ADmg: Average Damage
ADmg = ((DMax - DMin) / 2)
DPS vs Shields:
ADmg * DvsShield * (1 / Refire) = DPS
DPS vs Armor:
ADmg * DvsArmor * (1 / Refire) = DPS
DPS vs Ship:
(DPSvsArmor + DPSvsShield) / 2 = DPS
So for the example given:
DMax: 3092
DMin: 1909
ADmg: 2500.5
Refire: 0.256 (Need to actually round that one, the game does) = 0.26
vsShield: 0.499
vsArmor: 0.499
Using those you get:
DPSvsArmor: (2500.5 * 0.499 * (1 / 0.26)) = 4799.037
DPSvsShield: (2500.5 * 0.499 * (1 / 0.26)) = 4799.037
DPSvsShip: 4799.037
Using all that, I decided to run a little test, since I was in-game crafting anyways. Results are:
Level 9 QuickFire Ion Cannon:
DMax: 3101.1
DMin: 1914.6
ADmg: 2507.85
Refire: 0.253 (0.25)
vsShield: 0.725
vsArmor: 0.241
Using those you get:
DPSvsArmor: 2417.5674
DPSvsShield: 7272.765
DPSvsShip: 4845.1662
Versus:
Level 9 Max Damage Ion Cannon: (Capped max damage, then went for min damage on extra points)
DMax: 3769.1
DMin: 1832.4
ADmg: 2800.75
Refire: 0.352 (0.35)
vsShield: 0.725
vsArmor: 0.241
Using those you get:
DPSvsArmor: 1928.516
DPSvsShield: 5801.554
DPSvsShip: 3865.035
As you can see, while that max damage number looks really nice on the 2nd one, it's DPSvsShip is almost 1000 less per second. That, to me, is a ton of damage. Sure, that first one's damage numbers don't look all that hot, but when you get down to seeing that 0.25 refire rate and realize it's going to fire a full 10% faster, it more then makes up for it.
In the end, it's based on what the customer wants. If it's a custom job, you gotta make it to what they want, but educate them if you think something else might work better. If it's for generic sale, remember that 75-80% of the pilots want to see that huge max damage number, and you don't want to have to sit there all day trying to convince them it's not the better gun.
Thanks
no. weaponsmith exp. points do not help. But Jedi can get a the same BUFF as a weaponsmith, and apply it to LS crafting.
So you can stack LS experimentation, crafting food + drink, and weaponsmith buffs with research city bonus.

you can get the weaponsmith buff...however its debatable if it actually works...my experiences shows that it does not...
I did snag one that was +15 1-Handed LS and +4 Lightsaber Experimentation, woohoo.

I have a CA that has +12 2-Handed LS Speed and +7 Weapon Experimentation in it, it'd be so nice to have this work, but most likely um, unbalanced.

You blessed son of a gun.......
I get terrain negotiation and clothing exp ca's. Like they are going out of style. Never once gotten a saber ca yet. It's almost made me want to hit the cancel button......bah it's frustrating, specially when loot hunting is all I like to do.
