Thread: Questions you NEVER ask a weaponsmith...

Had a good (bad?) one recently:

I've been a MWS for about 4 months (spread across 2 characters), but I've never really put my heart and soul into ranged weapons. I'm making Melee weapons as good as they come by and large, but I'm not even close on most of the ranged stuff and the bigger they get the farther off the mark I am. And I know it...

OK so:

Guildmate: I need a Uber T21

me: Try [WS1], [WS2] & [WS3], they are all on the map on Tat, Corellia & Naboo

Guildy: cba, send me waypoints

me: Don't have waypoint for all of them , just [WS2]

**Waypoint emailed

guildy: can't you make me a T21

me: Mine suck, they are like .4 of a sec slower and close on 50 damage down on the server best, which last time I looked were being made by [WS2], though the other guys were damn close

guildy: ok

--Time passes, we're on the corvette, People are dieing, it's not going well...

Guildy: [WS2]'s T21s Suck (this guy is selling 7.1 410 max dam T21s!)

me: you're having a laugh? Well maybe he's sold out of the really good ones, but even his 'old' stock (7.2 401 max dam) isn't bad

Guildy: Nah it sux

me: **has a thought** well try WS1 and WS3 on Tat and Naboo they sell presliced stuff, though you'll pay a lot (or buy 10 from WS2 and pray for a decent slice)

Guildy: nah cba **note: This is the easiest and best way to really piss me off... Why do you want me to help you if you 'cba' helping yourself!?

-- some 60 seconds later: (My vendor was very close to weaponsmith2's)

guildy: Izit ur T21s suck

me: yeah I told you that

guildy: but like they are really bad

me: /t [the rest of the guild council] **edit**?

**3 replies all saying the same thing

me: /guildremove pleb

our shop host: (who was one of those dieing...): /shopban pleb

top tip, if you are going to slag off the guild WS, don't do it when he's the guild leader as well...

For the record the guild is a MUCH! better place now And we're a lot more careful about who we let in...

Or for that matter, what's the deal with offering me my OWN weapons back, unsliced, unused, at a 25% markup?

Great story, Ternel, ROFL...

I didnt think the guy would take me seriously............Thought he would take a hint and bugger off. But he couldnt figure out that it wasan ARMORsmith that makes armor so I shouldn't have be suprised.

I haven't opened up a shop just yet because I am looking for a dependable Smuggler to slice my weapons. A fellow guild member that I can trust has finally mastered Smuggler. I have a ton of weapons that I need to get sliced to open up shop. I plan on giving him a fee for slicing all of my weapons, BUT... at the moment we are kind of in an arguement because he wants to slice my weapons and put them on HIS vendor and then hand over what he think should be my profit.

Ummm...

HELL NO.

All he does is slice them, but I am going through months of grinding, harvestering tons of specialized resources to include paying to support all my harvesters then experimenting with components and doing all the runs. And he thinks he can get off telling me that he deserves a bigger margin than what I was going to give him. It will take him MAYBE 30 minutes to slice everything I have. Where as this has been a 6 month venture for me.

AAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!

Anyone know a good dependable Smuggler on Bloodfin? heh

A~

Here is my opinion on selling sliced weapons: It is risky and I dont recomend. Heres why: If you make areally goodbatch of say 10 T21's and have 2 sliced. If those slices are awful then the price on them has been reduced. I have found that people assume that they will get a35% slice and will buy accordingly. If the weapon already has a 15% slice then the weapon cannot be any better (other then with a power up) and people cant dream of their perfect slice. The thought of a perfect slice can be worth more then an actual low slice.

Oh and to avoid all the dumb "where is the next button" questions i do 2 things. 1. didnt put my name on the vendor. It is a guild company I work for (EKT if anyone is interested) and 2. have a master merchant in my guild set up the vendor. At least I am free of that annoyance.

why is asking "what should i sell [insert weapon name here] for? such a bad question? i sometimes ask that cause i see a weapon that is the same stats for 30k and see another with same stats for 10k...so i get confussed and ask lets say siymon for his opinion. some people overprice and some under price cause they wanna get rid of the stuff....also since siymon and DK are right next door i check there shop for ideas of prices.

anyway back to topic!

i had one guy ask me this:

guy: hey i need an uber T21!

(already annoyed at this point but i go easy on him and let him off easy)

me: i dont have the materials on me to make"uber" T21's

guy: what in gods name you talking about?!?!?! you get some steel and some ore and you cram it together and experiement it to 100%! come on its not that hard at all!

me:

me: i look forword to seeing your weapons.

Now for a little story for the double post (Triple )....well hope this will justify it....

How to Insult Your Local Weaponsmith:

I will demonstrate in this tell I got once how to insult a weaponsmith (or any other crafter for that matter)

1. Do not give any form of greeting and call them a generic name for a crafter, cheapening their profession

Noob: hey Smithy

Me: hello and i do have a name

2. Demand a vague item and demand they be the one who needs your credits

Noob: I need a Super UBER weapon. What can you offer me

Me: Why should I OFFER you anything. youare bargining for MY stuff

3. Point out that there are other crafters and keep up with your demands ( infurating the crafter is a good idea. when they are mad they give you good stuf for free)

Noob: So? Your just a crafter. Now what weapons do you want to sell me?

Me: Usualy I would bring out my crap weapons like my krayt flame thrower orGeonocian Powerhammer, but for YOU I have a wide selection of UBER looted CDEF pistols, carbines and rifles.

4.If they become uncorporitive then say you can do it yourself

Noob: CDEF?! a noviceartisincan make those. I can make them ifI got artisin!!

Me: That is going to be your only supply of any type of weapon if you treat WS like that.

5. Try another parting insult by saing they are an irrevelent part of the community to make sure they are good and mad

Noob: *(%^ you. You guys are just a dime a dozen. Who needs you guys anyway. You just make crap anyway. I am going to be looting the UBERIST weapons that you can't even imaging you @**

Me: Have a nice day

/addignore

*Note*: edited for gramer in parts

Congradulations. You have not only insulted the weaponsmith, but all crafting professions in general. Next class: How to shoot yourself in the foot

hmmmm.......I might as well spin another yarn of WS horror stories.

When the new auction chat started a few weeks ago I decided to get some viewers to the trade fourms on which i had a krayt flamer with 3.5 speed unsliced which had a bid of 1.5 million so far. So I went out on the channel about my auction and this happens:

Me: Attention Commandos: there is a krayt flamer for sale on the tempest fourms with an unsliced speed of 3.5. Current bid is only 1.5 million. Hurry before it is gone!!

Confused man: thats a ripoff

Me: what are you talkign about. this is worth twice that and if it goes for 1.5 it is a good deal.

Man: no, it is just a bit faster then a flamer that you can buy for like 20k

Me: well, 1 its ALOT faster then even sliced flamers and 2. with those weapons you hit a wall with the stats. to get above that wall will cost you alot.

Man: that weapon is still a ripoff. Its worth maybe 200k but that would be high...i'll give you 250k. Above what its worth

Me: I already have a bid that is six times that. why should I sell it for only 250k?

Man: bucause you would be ripping off the person who would buy it.

Me: its their credits and they can spend it any way they want. You can spend it on what you want but it wont be on my weapons

During the past week I spent all my playtime catching up on custom orders. I didnt go out hutning ONCE. I decided that I would not be doing any custom orders (except for guild members) for 1 week, resuming 8/9/04.

Coversation from last week (say thursday)

cust: I did something bad!
me: What??
cust: where were you last nigt at 2:30am!?
me: Sleeping, I have work in the morning...
cust: well I had to get a DE-10 made, and it came out 4.4 254
me: lol, ouch..
---note--- base stats for server best resources are around 4.1 278 or so
I forget where the convo went out from tehre but I had talked with him earlier that week saying if he wanted to have one made to offer parts to my vendor, mail me details, bla bla bla (that is my policy, has been for months now)

Coversation yesterday (same guy)
cust: hey, I need a favor
me: alright, what?
cust: I have 3 schems, 2 yellow barrels 1 white barrel, 6 krayt tissues
me: I have put a hold on all custom orders for 1 week
cust: OMG! **edit**
me: sorry I need a break.. Anyway you need 7 tissue to make 3 Krayt DE-10 anyway
cust: DE-10 takes 2, times 3 is 6.
me: -insert custom macro asking users to visit my website for more info on pricing, custom weapons and enhancers.-
me: Im sorry it takes 7
cust: why?
me: you need an extra for a schem
cust: But de-10 takes 2
me: -custom macro-
me: -custom macro-
me: -custom macro-
cust: omg lol

I didnt spend hours and hours compiling information on my website to explain my answers. I'm the WS, take my information or leave it, don't ask me to justify myself.

Now this is an extreme case..
Normally when someone asks a common answer that takes mroe than say a line of text to explain I hit my macro button, usually they say "Hey cool" and about 10-15mins later I get another tell saying "Nice site".

True. Still, though, some people simply think they know better than you. I mean, WT.F? Which of us having this conversation has been a WS for over a year? A show of hands? Just me? That's what I thought. Now shut the heck up and listen. =)

What I find annoying is when they tell you stuff that you know is false. Like a guy who wanted a krayt power hammer. I said it wasnt possiable so he said he has a friend who has one. When I asked if it might be ackley he said no, it was krayt and he wants one too. After a 2 min argument he stormed out of my shop. I dont mind taking questions but trust us when we say it isnt possiable.

ya some people belive everything they read...jus cause it said [krayt] on the powerhammer doesnt mean it is a krayt weapon...could be some guy trying to rip you off by putting the [krayt] name in there when its jus a good slice.

This one is more of a Vendor issue than a true weaponsmith issue.

I can't count how many emails/tells I've got because I keep rejecting peoples Offers to my vendor. I have to explain every time that offers are to the vendor owner and not the public. I've even went so far that when I saw noob's do it and prices are low.....I just buy the item then destroy it. Easier than explaining how vendors work and helps the noob with a little cash.

But, the "Uber" weapon question has been presented to me on many an occasion!! lol

*in the monty python and the holy grail reading of the holy hand grenade voice* And He commanded unto the weaponsmith community that this post will never die, unless thou were to want the wrath of the all mighty, all powerful nerf bat, to come crashing down upon thy head. And they feasted on the smally furry animals that thine weapons had killed. And there was much happyness........

So up to the top with you.................

Oh, a WS story..........hmmmm..........Well here isa story that would make any crafter mad. I had a guy contact me and said he wanted to buy a krayt flamer and 125 cyroban grenades. I asked him how much he had and said many millions. So i make the order (the flamer has a nice 3.5 speed ) and all those cyroban grenades and he never shows. Here is the only good thing from him not showing up: I sold that flamer for 400k more then what he was offereing. The bad thing is that I am now stuck with 125 cyroban grenades. This was a few weeks ago and I still have those grenades. The good and bad sides of taking orders like that: you get a big payoff but if it is a no show you can get stiffed bad. Please be kind to your local weaponsmith and buy what you say you want. We go through all the trouble to make it the least you can do is buy it.
