Thread: Can this be true? Resource stat caps & SWGCraft.com data
and as for your question about whether or not swgcraft is a good resource for doing stuff like this, I'd say absolutely. It's the most comprehensive tool for resource data around. It is far from complete, but research like this spreads the word and helps people find the site, which means they use it, word spreads, more people add data, etc.
my recommendation is stop doing it by hand though...that's got to be horrendously boring.

When Weaponsmithing you will find that you WILL need to use something like Fooman's tool. It gives you the straight dope on what resources are good. It's impossible to look at stats. It will kill you to find out you passed on a spawn of Axidite because the OQ was low when it was almost perfect for an item that did not require OQ. Or pass up the best Plumbum that has ever spaend because the CD was <100.
In Weaponsmithing it's not about what resource is "best" it's about which resource is "less horrible."
The easy thing to do of course is whena new resource spawn, instead of looking at the stats as "well it only has 68 conductivity, it must be junk", look at that resource that you DO have and see if its better or worse. If its better, mine it.
No sense in going on about how terrible it is that plumbum iron has low conductivity. It is what it is. The weapons that use it are set up in such a way as to be balanced with those stats.

One thing to look for when using swgcraft.com to find caps is bad data. If you look at the data on Titanium closely, you will see that the cap on DR is probably 174 and not 304. There is only a single instance above 174 and several clustered just below 174. My conclusion is that the data on that single Sunrunner spawn is incorrect.

Aye, it's a fair comment... however, I've found a post on the SWGCraft forums that addresses this whole question in great detail and makes my task here redundant! I'll create another post about it...

They do have caps. and the weapons are modeled with that in mind. If they suddenly gave Plumbum Iron a high conductivity like 600, then the weapons themselves would be out of whack

Bear in mind, however, where Advanced Barrels cannot reach certain speed heights, they have other benefits that normal barrels cannot achieve.

I'd want a serious dev "Yes or No" on this one. Simply because the weapons using Plumbum for example tend to be the weapons no one wants as they can't compare. A very good example is Advanced Barrels. No matter how good your resources are, Rhodium steel is gated around 150 CD, so your Advanced Barrels cannot get nearly the speed your non-advanced do.
I've gota handful of Dev quotes around here that say exactly that, but it'll take me a bit to figure out what threads they're buried in. For the time being, take my word for it. They have said from the start that all weapons were designed with resource caps in mind. We've had huge debates about this, especially when they started the recent tinkering with Experimentation. Unfortunately, the Developers and the players have yet to come to an agreement on the problem with resource caps.

Huh? I didn't know the adv stock was broken. Can someone fill me in? This isn't a flame, I really don't understand.
Experimentation is broken, you can get 40/40 dmg with any quality wood by doing 6 points into damage in one go and then filling damage with either 1-2 or maximum points in subsequent attempts (this seems to be more of a personal preference, the initial 6 point experiment is generally agreed on as the only way to do it). The only stat affected by resource quality is speed, and it takes absurd numbers of stocks before you get a good one (20+ is typical, sometimes over 50).
