I'll add a bit to this. A 12 point, while it does give you a few extram experimentation points, is not as useful as good resources. If you are a 12 point smith making weapons with pure plumbum you are not going to win prizes for the weapons you create so dont spent the 40 million or so it would take to get all the WS exp tapes unless you have that kind of money to throw around. Invest in resources and you'll do just fine.

A Weaponsmith Bandolier is also a good item to get, besides the tapes. Have a Master Tailor make it for you after you get the schematic or buy a pre-made one. You can help with this as it requires 7 (I think) Medium Warheads from a factory crate. I gave these to my favorite Master Tailor and she gave me a great discount. There is also a Grenaders Belt that helps when making Munitions. Also read up on how to insert tapes into clothing to get the bonuses you wish (they are very very tricky!). This thread can be found in the Tailor profession forum.

personally i've got some of the best resources Kauri has to offer...and from a 10pt Master selling maxed out dmg exp weapons to selling 12pt maxed out dmg and over 1K condition weapons is a very important trait in my selling...many people come to me for my custom weapons because i put the effort into making every weapon with my SIG on it the best possible weapon out there

10pt vs. 12pt

big difference in my book and worth every penny when crafting scythes too

cept it takes many millions to get 12 pt. Resources are infinitly more valuable to a WS then 2 extra points (though they are nice for making custom weapons)

(Just an aside from the world of ex-players)

A weaponsmith bandolier is actually a fairly significant pain in the tuckus. Because it takes up a backpack slot.

Additionally unless they've fixed it since I left, +'s to grenade experimentation are utterly ineffective.

In order of difference they make to weaponsmithing:

1: Resources: Standard

2: Resources: Optional.

3: Experimentation & Research: By which I mean taking the time to find out the best ways to make certain items, which advanced options are worth adding and which aren't, knowing where the breakpoints are for weapon-speed vs speedcap vs damage

4: Experimentation Points.

However, in terms of what draws the public? '12 point smith' is a label that's been a draw for quite awhile.

Considering you can already max damage experimentation with 10pts. the extra two points go towards things that most people don't seem to really care about much. Yes, it is nice to increase range or lower HAM a tad but not all of us have the funds to buy those extra 2 points...

And no one is saying you have to. You'll note that I put those experimentation points last on my list of things that make a difference. (If you hear me saying otherwise in game, it's because someone else runs this character now).

However, if you think that HAM/Range/MaxCondition don't make a difference in sales, then you haven't realized that there are two different weapons markets out there. Even with holo-grinding a thing of the past there are specific sub-markets for certain weapons that are more easily entered into as a 12 point smith, though a 10 point smith can put forward some good efforts as well.

Things like:

Accurate Pikes

High Accuracy/High Damage LLCs

Low-HAM VKs.
