Thread: Slave to the Grind A proposal to free us

/disagree I think the whole grind thing is to discourage people who aren't willing to put in the time and effort to be a weaponsmith, it's taken me a long time to get where I am in WS and I'm more than happy to do it. I mean really would you want 2x the competition because we could become Masters in one day...well okay some people can become Master WS in a day with connections but that's alllllooooottt of grinding and god bless the person who's willing to sit and there computer and do that for that long.
Actually, I don't think you can do it in a day. It's many, many hours of straight grinding even with an efficient macro.
The competitve problem I see is the low-level issue. From my perspective, there aren't enough weaponsmiths - at least dedicated ones willing to keep their vendors stocked.
I pesonally can not keep up with the demand for weapons. I make what I think should enough to allow me a little breather and a day later it's all gone. so I'm not worried about increased competition at all - we have a really out of whack supply and demand balance right now.
And besides, being a Master WS doesn't mean that much in itself. It is still an incredible amount of work to be a successful weaponsmith. So much so, that even if it were "easy" to become a master, I still think the undedicated would be weeded out very quickly.

Instead, i think the fix would be better placed in the weapon certification process. It takes a long time to move up high enough to make stuff like a laser riffle, but just a few hours of shooting durni's to get the laser riffle certification. Personally, I went from a CDEF to a laser riffle, and never bought any weapons in between. I didn't need to. There is no market for low level weapons becasue the combat classes don't need them long enough to justify buying them. Even master smiths would be hard pressed now to move large quantities of D18s. Until the market is created, no amount of changes to the ws line will fix it.

I agree 100%!
As a carbineer, I went frmo a CDEF Carbine to a DH17 Carbine to a Laser Carbine in about2 days. It was only 21,000 XP. It's been a few weeks now and I've almost dabbled to Novice Carbineer, and I'm still using the same Laser carbine.
Why do certifications stop at theelite combatprofessions at Novice (such as Novice Pistoleer)?
I think more severe item decay would help here, so even if you use the same type of gun for a long time, you'll need to buy new ones every now and then.
Here is a very unpopular concept...
The best xp to resource ratio I have seen at the novice WS level is 2xp per resource + 2. (in practice mode)
if you burn rifle barrels you are burning 46 resources to gain (46 X 2) + 2 = 94 xp
if you burn sword cores you are burning 12 resources to gain (12 X 2) + 2 = 26 xp
you can create 3 sword cores in the same time as you can burn 1 rifle barrel. That is a 5% gain in xp per resource.. equal amount of xp per minute.. and 300% more clicking.
If you don't care about clicking (and I don't - I have a mouse that practically reads my mind), then the least amount of resources per combine is superior, if your main concern is resource to xp ratio.

If you have multiple crafting tools, then it doesn't matter how long it takes to craft an item, since you use another tool while the other is crafting. If resources are scarce, then it's best to get the most XP/resource, but since it's cheap to sample/harvest resources, most people choose the time savings over resource/xp efficiency.
Totally disagree. I have been working up the WS tree for several weeks now and it doesn't bother me. Yes I was disappointed when I hit novice weaponsmith and realized the best weapon I could make was about as good as a CDEF weapon. Since then, I have just made it a long term goal to become a decent WS. I am still not there.
I really don't want evry Tom, **edit** and Harrybacca to be a WS. It's probably what a lot of people would like to do, but don't want to spend the time to attain. And don't think other professions are any different. Yes, architect has items with more xp. But having to come up with that much ore is a royal pain. Combat chracters have to kill an enormous amount of creatures. And levelling up the medic tree is painfully slow.
Right now, I sell resources and make a lot of money doing so. The money I make subsidizes the harvesters I put on resources I will need when I get to master. Making advanced components and high level weapons requires very specific resources. Spend your time gathering these now so you'll have something to work with when you get there. Don't fight the grind. It is your friend.
Actually, I don't think you can do it in a day. It's many, many hours of straight grinding even with an efficient macro.
XP to reach master: 896.000
XP per minute with a macro: 1000
Minutes to reach master: 896
Hours to reach master: 14.93
1000 is set very low. Im guessing you could do one every 4 seconds yielding almost 1500 XP/minute even with blaster handlers. Thats:
XP per minute with a macro: 1500
Minutes to reach master: 597.33
Hours to reach master: 9.95
Soif anyone can stand 10 hours of straight grinding(or 15 hours taking a few coffeebreaks and watching TV while you grind) it is quite possible to master WPS in one day ![]()
Isnt it just to get an mouse with an turbo button (or download any Auto click program) and use those Proj rifle barrles. You dont even have to sit at the computre well i know it takes some time but think of an architect that need diffrent materials to grind and have to sit around at the computre and click all those resources in + that they have more then 3* the xp needed.
(Not sure if im right about that with the architect the maybe have something to build also that you can use the same resources to make.)
