Dude, your crazy. You know what moderate successes are right? I dont even like making schematics anymore. Its a total pain, its the "Schematic grind". I've made 50 of something before I get it perfect with no moderate successes(I nomrally just give up before I try that many times). And no, crafting station rating doesnt have a dam thing to do with it. If it did, I wouldnt have to make 50 **edit**ing rifles to get a perfect one. Then we'd get a bunch of tells from people who want hand made ones, uggghhhh.

I havent even logged in for two days, I need to make a new dx2 schematic....and I really, really dont want to. I did all my grinding on the way up to Master. /logout

Actually I think that depends on the product - and certainly on the manufacturer. I have a hand-built sports car from 1994, when almost all other cars (and all other lines of cars from the same manufacturer) were built with a great deal of robot assistance. In 2001 the same company released another sportscar of the same concept, this one wasn't hand-built - and the difference in quality is very noticable.

OTOH, don't think I'll be buying hand-crafted cellphones anytime soon...

Additionally, while a watch factory will be able to produce 200.000 idectical watches, only an experienced watchmaker will be able to fill your order for something truly unique for a special occasion.

Anyways, maybe it wan't such a swell idea for SWG. Thanks for all the input.

I thought you masters have better luck with assembly than us puny Expert ws :-)

That is why I abandoned my plan to get XP by making weapons. To many wasted resources.

But wouldn't it make it more fun even if you just "grind" for a good schematic. That you once in a while get "You just made a legendary weapon +50 Max damage, +100 Posion and +10 Rifle accuracy has been added to this weapon". Or something like that.

Any sort of random event in crafting would encourage macroing and mule characters by rewarding people who do nothing but sit around crafting all day long. Real players wouldn't be able to compete with a 2boxer's secondary character that sits in its house all day long running a macro with the guy emptying its inventory every half hour.

I would be strongly opposed to anything that made factory made weapons to be different/weaker. I was one of the first 5 masters on Flurry and I got there by making weapons by hand day in and day out...no macros...and I didn't exploit factory experience (actually I only had one factory until the day before I made master). I have pretty much had enough of making tons of weapons by hand, in my eyes the entire idea of factories are to make crafter's lives a litttle easier. To instill some system that would somehow make one at a time crafted items somehow better is short sighted and would force us back to being chained to our crafting stations day in day out. I would never agree to anything of the sort.

This is an interesting topic. I really like the idea of hand-crafting weapons as opposed to factory-crafting weapons. But that is a personal preference and I really don't care about the money and time. If someone wants one of my weapons, they might have to wait a week or so to get it because I will not use a factory to create the weapon and I also will not spend all my time creating weapons. (I like going out kicking creatures butts as well.) Also, I do believe that hand-made items can be better than factory-made items in real life. It depends on the item. But, I can definitely see the point of several people about making factories not as good as handcrafting as being a bad idea in SWG.

So, what about this, instead of changing the stats of item, what about allowing a weaponsmith who wants to hand-craft their weapons to add some sort of unique thing to the item...For instance, if I were creating a sword, I could specialize the sword handle. It would be pure asthetics and have nothing to do with the how good the weapon is...but, I personally would pay more for those asthetics. I don't know if most people would or would not. Probably not since you would be paying more and waiting longer for the weapon, but that is true in real life.

As an example, consider my dad (irl). He is a jeweler. He makes custom jewelery and only has a factory produce one line of his merchandise. Does he have a lot of clients compared to say Fred Meyer's or Costco? No, but the client list he does have come to him because he can design asthetics into his jewelery that any mass-producer can't do. Is he rich? Not even close. But he enjoys it and he gets to meet people personally and he gets to choose who and what he creates. The rings my wife and I own are unique because of this. No one else in the world owns them (or ever will) and they were designed specifically for us.

I think this feature would be a nice addition. But, I don't really know how possible it would be to do. Also, there are many other bugs that need to be fixed that would make a feature like this quite a bit lower on the scale of importance.

I hope that I made a at least a modicum of sense.

Factory made knife: $50
Hand made knife, by a master: $3000 (or more)

Now, imagine we do that here.

I can make a good T21 schematic in 2-3 tries. This means I waste
1-2 weapons worth of time and materials for 10+ weapons. If
I have to hand make, I lose 10+ weapons for every 10+ made.

My prices wouldn't go through the roof, I'd just stop making them
so other people's prices could go through the roof.

Frankly, maybe whittling wood sculptures or even sharpening blades for a sword might end up in the quality being higher when hand-crafted. But with guns? Grenades? Mines? Flamethrowers? Not very realistic. Moreover, for most hand-crafted products in the real world, there isn't really anything that makes them of better quality. They just have more sentimental value attached to them, in that another human being dedicated more time and effort in the crafting process, thus skyrocketing the price.

I personally go with the Krayt argument. Most of the time, you're going to be hand-crafting Krayt guns over factory producing them and thus, hand-crafted items have a bonus over factory-produced.

Arguments based in realism can't be applied, but a friend of mine an Ex-SEAL and gunsmith... I would have to say his hand made guns are overall more accurate, have a better feel, overall just a much better gun than anything I've shot off the shelf, and he hand machines over 75% of the parts I would say... I can say this with some confidence as a IPSC pistol shooter for over 20 years.

Very interesting proposal. We already have a bit of hand made items made that reflect your idea due to enhancements used. My true fear is that customers would want thebetter hand made guns instead of the factory made guns.....I would get a zillion tells asking me to 'craft' one. I have found that customers will shell out thecredits and line up for the best guns available, so the grind time would become incredible. I spend enough time in the basement of my shop staring at the crafting station as it is. I like the idea....just needs some tweeking to make it doable and fair.

like i said *cough* krayt *cough* there are your hand made weapons, people do shell out tons of cash for them. no need for any new stuff to complicate the fragile bug infested game.
