Thread: How does a new Weaponsmith compete with an established weaponsmith from Pre-CU.
I am just starting out as a new WS, still 10 point. I ground my way up after the respecs were done in the CU (wish I had just thought to spec in WS then, woulda saved me a lot of time and effort, not to mention cash). I am currently working on the newbie (under CL10 market) with a range of weapons I sell on the bazaar at Mos Eisley as well as off my own vendors, and the rest of the range up to 54 in standard weapons, particularly focusing on the Novice BH weapons and BH weapons in general (since there are so many).
I am not making a fortune but I am steadily making cash, probably something on the order of 24-80k a day or so. I spent a lot of money on resources at the start but as a result I now only occasionally need to buy any new resources and I am cranking out factory crates of weapons and stockpiling them for later placement on my vendors. I have Advertising III and a few boxes in Management so that I could have a sizable number of vendors. That way I am visible on the map when someone checks the weapon vendors section. I get a fair amount of business, and I am located on Tattooine in a city that doesn't have a shuttleport yet (thursday its coming). I expect business will pick up even more then. I have no doubt I would do better in a bigger city.
I plan on filling the lowbie and middle range market until I make back my initial investment and can purchase the skill tapes needed to get to 12 pt. To be honest I just like making good weapons and selling them for reasonable prices. I did a price check on the bazaar vendor location on several locations, visited several weaponsmith shops, and I think my weapons are attractively and resonably priced. Where possible I try to undercut the competition by a slight margin.
I have also found it useful to place a few lower cost weapons on my vendors from time to time, often the people who come to buy the one lowerpriced weapon leave with 2 or more other weapons that they paid the regular price - and I got sales that make up for the lostrevenue.
I also have a Cantina set up (used to be a Master Musician) and stocked with all sorts of BH Supplies from weapons, to droids, stims, food, spices, etc. It has a BH terminal outside the Cantina and there are spynet ops on a hill 200m away. This venture seems to be paying off slowly and will no doubt do better as time goes by and more people discover the place. Its a cooperative effort between me and several other crafters, although I do have to go buy and resell some items from time to time.
So far I think its quite feasible to compete with the 12pters, because they seem to be ignoring the lower and midrange markets entirely. Good luck
The only preCu components that are worth anything IMHO are the scopes and stocks. Even with the best materials on my server there is no way I can even come close to a 0.0 spd -20 AC stock. That said, I wouldn't waste them on a run of standard weapons. They only go into my custom weapons, which is a rather small portion of the market.
If your dedicated crafter and keep a fully stocked vendor you will get your share of customers. I would recommend that you start saving to get that +12 suit ASAP. It does make a big difference post CU.
my pre cu ABPH converted to 21-47 -1.78 speed -6 sac, can post CU ABPH be made this good?
