I use this rifle with my Bounty Hunter alt and, even with Doc buffs, an SAC pup and food I still run out of action. The speed slice looks great on the stats (very high DPS) but for practical reasons a Critical hit slice is nicer

Yeah, I thought about going with critical hit slices instead of speed slices, but as far as I'm aware, critical hit slices are still bugged and they only actually increase your damage if the critical hit occurs while you were using a special that normally has the potential for a critical, such as Advanced Critical Shot. Now, granted, if you're a BH, that's going to be your main damage special, and you'll be using it a lot, but even then its debatable weather or not its worth it, depending on what combination of specials you use, namely on how often you use Advanced Critical compared to your other specials.
Oh, and Shug, yeah my rifle above was made with a pre-CU stock that still had the damage mods on it.

Well, unless it was fixed recently, the *Critical Hit* text would appear above your target, however you wouldn't actually do any extra damage unless the special you were using had a setting for ciriticals. Thus unless you were using Advanced Critical, the critical hit didn't do anything. Bascially, it was theorized that it works like this... All specials have two stats related to Criticals. The first stat is the frequency, and the second is how much damage a critical does. On most specials, except for ones like Advanced Critical, both of those numbers are zero. Critical hit slices will raise the frequency number, but since the critical damage number for most specials is still zero, raising the frequency doesn't really do anything for you.
Sadly I don't have a screenshot atm... but I monitor my combat log as I fight and I can assure you the critical hits on non-critical shot attacks .... worked.... not only that but it stacks with the Advanced Critical Shot extra damage.
I will try to get a shot of it now...

enhanced power cells + scopes (looted before last publish) + pre CU subcomponents...
