With the new high CD steel this is no longer the case. I now have DL-44 Metal Pistols that have the same speed as the regular DL-44 with slightly higher damage.

True. But I still don't make them. =)

Just an addition - On my server, "grind kits" are all the rage.
Basically, name a backpack "Swordsman grind", add a 2 handed sword, 2 Power Hammers and 2 2-handed curved swords, and any other 2 handed weapons you see fit, although those 3 are really all people use. Do the same for all professions, and you can make some decent money selling weapons that usually would not sell on their own. For me, these are very popular, as someone grinding out Master Marksman or Brawler will have a hard time finding all the weapons they'll need to finish it. Hopefully this is helpful, because realistically, you can sell anything, you just need the right vector to do it in.

- Ryyk Blade (slower, less damage than a 1H Curved Sword)
- Sword (slower, less damage than a 1H Curved Sword)
- Reinforced Combat Staff (this is an Artisan item, and the Metal Staff is better anyway)
- Vibro-Axe (slower, worse to-hit mods, less damage per second than a 2H Curved Sword)
- DL-44 Metal Pistol (vastly inferior to the DL-44)
- Power5 Pistol (inferior to the Scout Blaster and DH-17 Pistol)
- Tusken Rifle (just another energy damage rifle)
- All CDEF weapons (need you really ask?)
I make all of these weapons because I am not a WS for the money. I wouldn't hesistat 1 sec. to make a krayt D18 just for fun. I want to see how high I can get on the stats. So yesterday I bought 25 krayt tissues for all those low/medium skill weapons. I had once a Power 5 pistol that had almost 300 max damage with a scope. It looked awsome.
Btw If you try, you can get the Tusken rifle pretty high.... Around 200-300 min/max without fangs. I wonder how high it would be with fangs. (They use spider fangs, don't they ?) So if a nOOb player gets his rich pal to buy him a gun, then a great tusken would be cool.

Tuskens can go high, and yes they do use Spider Fangs, (or Gorax shards, but those dont spawn so much anymore), but their speed will always be slow, unfortunately. Make him a nice spraystick and slice it down to 1.0 speed

Ok, I scanned the "Questions to Never Ask a Weaponsmith" thread, and think this might be a legitimate, hopefully non-flammable query.
Since I'm a new WS, but still hope to be a dedicated serious WS, I need to ask you old timers... What weapons should I not even bother to try to make?? So far I've crossed out the SR Combat Pistol and the Tangle Pistol, but my gut tells me there's probably a few more clunkers out there I need to avoid. If any of you would be so kind to list which weapons you think are the 5 biggest wastes of crafting time, I'd be truly grateful. Thx.
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I just mastered in the last couple days, I plan on doing small batches of basicly every scheme I have, just to say I've made them and see what stats I can pan out, and I'll put them out. Whatever sells I'll make larger batches of. I spent about 3 months previous to grinding WS seriously collecting resources so I have most of what I need to make most everything, to make that plan work. If you don't have the resources already, Melee stacking seems where it's at, try VK's, PH's, Gaffi's, Baton's.
