So I'm in my shop, tweaking a few pieces for some friends, and this rodian walks in. I'm no bigot, but those guys always seem a little ... slow ... to me. Anyway, he starts checkin' out the merchandise - and I've got my eyes on him, makin' sure he isn't gonna steal something - and then starts whinin'.

"u tief! u chargez 2 much fo de guns!" I scowl - my stuff is the highest quality you'll find anywhere - no way in hell they can be too expensive. I look over at the guy a little more closely - notice his nametag says "GreeedoLives" and figure I must be dealing with one of those "special" rodians. So I use small words in my response.

"Don't like? Don't buy." I then get back to my business, and over the next few minutes, "Spanky the Littlest Rodian" keeps hurling abuse my way.

"i tel friendzz u r a scammer! u r so gay!" On and on it goes. After five minutes of increasingly bizarre rantings, one of my friends suggests that I set my hearing aid to selectively tune this guy out, but I have a better idea. I challenge him to a duel.

"haha u r gay! i is a pistle 3!!! ur ded!!! u just smith!!!" He accepts, and, about 7.8 microseconds later, his burnin' corpse is the newest addition to the decor of my shop.

See, what a lot of these jokers fail to realize is, even tho' I'm a master weaponsmith... there's a whole lot more room in my brain for some other skills. And I gotta admit - it's hard makin' guns all day and not learning a little bit about how to use 'em. Hell, just got my cert for Master Pistol Marksmanship the other day.

Y'know, even the slowest rodian ought to have more sense than to pack a CDEF when pissin' off a weaponsmith.

Jinx - great story...

I have the utmost respect for Rodian's (and *bacca's and Twi Lek's). Hey, I have to build up a business too, so I can't discriminate...

The only restriction I have is that I'll never sell to a Spock or a Bones...They're nuts.

Greets ...

After having read through this thread I have to say it was very amusing ... some of the stories are great.

I am heading towards master ... 0.1.0.4 sometime today ... I didn't *get* to crank out xp using a factory so I guess that makes me: factory-

Anyways ... I am not in it for the money ... I already have over 500k just running "lots" ... scaled *way* back.

Money is easy to make if you work at it .. my 10 year old son has a problem though ... he isa kid ... and just plays the game for the fun of it ... remember? Fun? ... he is totally stoaked ... he got 20 torches in his house and he thinks that waaaaay cool. His money? I rent 6 lots of his for 500 a crack per day ... sorta like an allowance.

No ... I will make guns for my guild ... I might take the time to make really good guns ... or I may just make good guns and sell them by the dozen :-) ... heck ... get a network of merchants ... give them the guns on the cheap and that's it ... still make good money, but not deal with the public in general.

Hmm .. I wonder if it's a good idea to put [don't /tell me] at the end of the description for every gun? hmm ... after reading this thread I just might do it ... or how about [just say no to /tell] ... or ... [/tell = no sale]

Okay, okay, so I was a little harsh on the rodians. But honestly, about 90% of the ones I see are some variant of Greedo or just plain stupid. Only *one* rodian ever had a non-RP name that I could respect: "Hanshotfirst Darnit" was, I believe, this fellow's name.

And don't get me started on the 'baccas.. Jewbacca, Chewintobacca etc. Only "bacca" I liked was "Chew Baccarat" the musician.

Last tangent: what do you suppose is the single most abused race for stupid names? I bet it's wookiees, alas.

And I'll quit hijacking this thread now. *slap* Bad Jinxy.

Stupid names - the thing is, run the character creator for *Bacca's. That's where a good chunk of 'stupid' names come from (disclaimer - I could care less what your name is, just as long as YOU'RE not stupid)

The other problem is that as a master, you can always make better weapons than anyone below you. So even though I can make a DLT20a, no one would buy it if they can badger you into making one that does twice as much damage.

I think this is a fairly common and inaccurate misconception. There are a lot of lazy people out there, who are perfectly willing to buy sucky weapons at low prices from the bazaar, instead of going and hunting down a master weaponsmith. The "casual player", as most people call them, would generally rather buy any old scout blaster and shoot nurns or whatever, than find a shop or commission a master weaponsmith.

"hi i saw ur auction on bazaar for 3k it won't let me bid higher than that so ill buy it for 3.5k"

"I don't sell on the bazaar, that's not my auction"

"it has ur name as crafter"

"It's not my auction, someone is probably selling a used gun"

"o how much 4 new gun then"

"thats a ripoff im not paying that much"

"Have fun finding someone who will sell you a gun with these stats for 3.5k, because every master weaponsmith on the server charges at least 10k"

I know this is a slight diversion from the topic - but does everyone that isn't master weaponcrafter think that everyone that is cheated to get there?

Milk-

I don't think 'cheated' is the right word.
There were benefits to starting early -

1. Harvester bug. No maintenance needed and it kept pulling resources. Fixed in around 14 days (or so).

2.100% for factory experience. Fixed (approximately) 2 weeks after harvester bug.

3. From the beginning, the beta testers knew what to do, and to a certain extent, they were getting PAs started (which is very kool) who's sole purpose was to have people dedicated to harvesting Iron, Steel, whatever...while the 'artisan' or 'architect' role made the PA.

I mean, come on - 3 or 4 days after live and there was a PA hall. Something is definitely wrong.

So, no, I'm not saying that 'everyone' cheated...I think some used the system as best as they did because they knew the quirks, which were patched. And, this is one of the reasons that I moved to one of the 2 new servers.

Anyway, I didn't mention these things for flames or whatever (and I KNOW that most of you masters DIDN'T exploit) - it's just a bit discouraging for me.

The biggest benefit to starting early = You started early.

You can make Master Weaponsmith in 3 or 4 days if you work REALLY hard at it. No, you aren't going to do it while self-sufficient...but you can do it nonetheless.

Not all of the Masters are Beta-babies. You don't have to have a sneak preview to put 2 and 2 together. "Hmmm...let's see...how do I get past Artisan? Ummmm...OH! I can craft something. Uh-hyuck...so what to craft? OH!! Look, Chem. Surveyors give me 60 XP, and I only need Metal!" "Oh, how do I get past Novice Weaponsmith??? Oooooh...Projectile Rifle Barrel gives me 80 XP and only takes Steel! WOW!" How stupid do you really think people are?

The factory exploit is a non-issue. The people that used it were the people who could muscle out a factory very early in the game. If they were going to power-craft THAT much, they would've done it with or without the factory. If there was never a factory bug, there still would've been Master Weaponsmiths within the first week. It's the nature of the thing...some people are power-gamers, some people aren't. The power gamers will ALWAYS find a way to power-game. It's as simple as that.

The one concession I'll give is the Harvester bug. Yeah...having Harvesters that didn't require Maintenance was a huge blessing. Of course, I personally beleive that Harvesters should continue to work until they're down to 0 condition...I don't see why they have to stop working if they're not at 100%. Even so, it's still easier to just destroy Personal Harvesters and craft new ones when resources shift, instead of re-deeding.

Man, seriously, if I hear one more complaint about exploits, I'm gonna shoot someone. Geez...

yea the whole money thing is a bit of a joke. i am not a master yet (give me a day to get the last box in munitions crafting and i will be) but i have a nice 500k credits. now this is not alot to most masters but ive been completely independent going through the weaponsmith profession. i rarely go below 500k and usually spend around 10-20k of maintence a day if i dont have to relocate. i try to keep around 20-30 weapons in my vendor at all times and they usually sell out in a day or 2 if i didnt restock. and i have been raising my prices so that i dont have to restock all that much and yet they still sell cause its soeasy to obtain money. now when i hit master i plan on making weapons to get me to the 1 mil mark or so then i will be very selective when i make my weapons after that point because i plan on going out and getting the certs to use my weaps and then deciding on which branch i want togo. i usually dont get too many tells unless its people who i have talked to before because i just dont advertise at all. ive seen so many people on these boards advertise their items just to get swamped with orders and tells all day long which in turn cause them to get frustrated and quit or god forbid!!! have poor customer service =) lately as i close in on master i send out an email to my small but very adequate size customer list about recent additions to my inventory or cool weapons ive made but i also include a line asking not to advertise for me because its not that im a **edit** i just dont want massive amounts of tells and emails everyday asking for orders, this lets me go and enjoy the game in other areas other than crafting. sure i do get them but not nearly as much as some other people ive heard stories from. thats when a nice macro comes in handy. just my thoughts on this issue

I am an architect and make 1/10 what weaponsmith make and I already have more money than I know what to do with it. The economy needs something to take the money out.

Well I'm not rich, not even master, but this is something I've considered. At what point will it get old? I've recently hit that point where money is coming in faster than its going out, and I'm looking long term. I do plan on doing combat stuff more seriously, but what to do with those millions when they come? The whole space thing is not even close to being out, and I'm not even going to put that on my radar until its on the test server. Vehicles are the same, I'm hoping I will have enough money and resources when they come out to jump in headfirst, but that's likely months away at least.

The obnoxious clients are something I can deal with, I knew that would happen. I get the daily "your shop sucks" or "your prices are too high", and my response is usually "thanks" or"ok", if I even bother responding. Here is a pretty accurate recollection of one that pretty is pretty representative:

Player: "Your shop sucks"

Eggnog: "OK"

Player: "What? WHy u so rude?"

5 minutes later...

Player: "No respond? I was just trying to help"

Eggnog: "I know, thanks"

Player: "You suck, I'm telling everyone not to visit ur shop"

Eggnog: "OK"

2 minutes later...
