Thread: Weap. Experimentation Skill tapes?

Anono, I don't think you read the full thread. Even with +25 Experimentation tapes, the Damage and Speed output of the weapon you are crafting is still determined by the quality of resources you use.

So a weaponsmith that has an experimentation enhancer will create a gun that is similar in damage and speed to a one created by a weaponsmith who doesn't have an experimentation enhancer as long as they use the same materials. However the weaponsmith with the experimentation enhancer will have a couple of extra points left over to put into durability or efficiency. The increases to those stats are very minor and will likely go completely un-noticed by the average consumer.

No need to get upset about it. It's really not a very big advantage.

These skill tapes would be a huge boon to a non-master WS, if you can get a hold of one. I would love to have a full 10 experimentation points, instead of trying to work with only 7.

Not that big of an advantage? Am I missing something? Would a MWS with +20 to experimentation tapes not get 12 experiment points? Even if damage is capped, that means lower HAM, better range or better durability. I sure as hell wouldn't buy a gun from me with only 10 experiment points.

Sounds kind of lame, but I don't want to play my weaponsmith if the weapons I make can never be as good as those with a +experiment tapes.

I guess the big question is do they still drop or not.

They still drop, but they are much MUCH rarer than they used to be.

I used to get them fairly often - one a day or so off of humanoids.

Now they drop maybe once a week from solid killing of humanoids. All of the NPCs on Lok work well. That's where I got my last one - a +8 to Droid Experimentation.

They would be a huge boon to non-masters....but how many non-masters do you know with the millions of creds that they go for?

I personally can't stand these tapes. It is like a slap in the face to me......"welcome to master, now you can (still) make sub-par weapons, enjoy!" 2 skill points is a ton in this prof. It is only one point less that the expert-master gap.

Of course that is me being alittle bitter about not having one....or even the possibility of getting one.

Khyden is right. Two more means nothing if you cannot put them into damage. How often do you hear someone say, "What? Your T21 has 74 mind drain? That just won't do. Iwould ratherpay another smith twice as much because he has 2 more exp. points, whichcan bring it all the way down to 70." As for durability, why would you ever put points into that? Less of it means he'll be buying from you sooner.

It would be nice to have the 2 extra points, but it doesnt really add much.

The biggest benefit to me would be the ability to partially recover from good sucesses on hand crafted enhanced components. It really hurts to waste a high velocity feeder when one more great success would have capped it.

In my experience each point spent on HAM drains = 1 point of decrease. Most folks wouldnt notice.

Don't Mon Cals get a bonus to Weaponsmith experimentation? Would that mean that they could conceivably get to +13?

no mon cals and rodian get +10 to weapon assembly. This only seems to reduce the critical failures at the time of assembly and nothing else.

bah, i still get crit failures all the time. My stations are as good as i could get (39.????) and my tools are 96%. i swear i fail more at my stations than i do with my droid. I got 4 crit failures in a row the other day. same with my master doc.

its not just 2 extra points on the weapon...its 2 extra points on the componets as well...and wen hand making special coustom weapons your also less concerned about not getting all great successes...Its a nice boost. Not sompthing to quit the trade if you dont have though.

Add to the fact that 2 extra experiment points means you can theoretically get 1 or 2 moderate successes during creation and still fill the damage bar without loss.
