I just auctioned a 349 bdps 69 sac De-10 and basically broke even on what i payed for the loot to make it. Is anyone elses server like that? Selling price for power cells, tissues, etc being greater then you can realistically hope to sell the finished weapon for?
After over a year of being a WS i've probably slightly lost credits or maybe broken even comparing what i've spent on loot and resources.
There's onlya tiny handful of useable weapons for a level 80 player, factor in PSGs and for the pvper it's even less then that. Lower level weapons are actually only useable for a few days if not hours due to the ease of leveling. So what is left thats worth making?
I sell more artisan goods then weapons these days.
I am. Its just not really all that exciting making weapons anymore.
ToOW when it hits live will make my decision for me. I have applied for the new live beta of PotBS (it seems to have great scope for non-combat play, kinda like SWG had once), success with that application is also another consideration.
There's just nothing to crafting weapons anymore. I recently took up Architect to try something new. After i'd got my Archi tapes I read some threads, sorted my resources and HEY PRESTO, on my very first go I hit BER 14 harvs and 44.64 Crafting Stations. It's not just WS that has no challenge anymore. A number of things (not least resource buffs) has made it all too easy.

Its the same on flurry. Most stacks of power cells go for 6mill+ and someone just bought out a bunch of scopes for 5mill a scope on our trade forums. I wont give up weaponsmith though, i will just carry on taking custom orders and making the odd weapon.

5 Mil a scope. Are you kidding. Even for the +40 or greater ones I wouldn't pay that. Holy crud. Hmm, I have 5 stacks of +60. Might be time to unload them somewhere.

Yeah components are crazy prices. Ive built a good reputation as being a consistant crafter so I get frequent request to craft. If people have cell weapons I charge between 1-3 mil. Its high but as I dont want to gamble on the current cost of Cells (3-6mil on Corbantis) I need to find a way to make a living.
I used to charge 500k but as people were making a lot more money reselling unused weapons i made them, increasing the crafting price only marginally effected their profit when a good Cell Carbine/Rifle will see easily for 10mil to 15mil , so 1-3mil for a craft isnt that bad.
So for me I can make as much money as I want, the problem is inflention on Corbentis is ridiculous. Stuff that cost 500k a year ago is not 3-5mil.

No way will I quit WS. I make several hundred K per week off of a few hours of work which stocks my vendors for about 3 months. I love being out and about shopping or doing missions and see an email telling me I just made some credits. You just need to pick what weapons will sell well. I sell loads of the weapons that are for lvl 54 but have no profession requirements. Example DL 44 xt. I harvest my own resources (mostly) and have 3 factories. Make runs of firearms in crates and you don't have to craft for a few months.
My thinking is make top of the line non-enhanced weapons at reasonable prices and they sell fast. I set 10 DL 44 xt's up for sale at 60K and almost always they are sold by the end of a week and I'm 600K richer!

I have literally already closed up shop for most things. Very few unenhanced weapons. The stuff that does make it to my vendors all too often is the failed experiments I have.

I still have a vendor up, but it's basically to sell off what I have left. I'll never drop WS as a profession, but I probably won't bother doing it for a living anymore. Hell, in three months as an AS selling capped unlayered Imperial faction armor, I've made more than I ever made in over18 monthsas a WS (yes, even including the grenade grinding craze). WS has lost a lot of it's luster to me.

Wow, that is saying a lot... I remember grenades. I need a T-shirt that says "I am a Weaponsmith and I survived Grenade Craze 04'/05' " I hated logging in because I would get a constant stream of tells asking if the grenades were done yet... I had 15 factories running 24/7 and I could not keep up, I jacked my prices so ahigh and they would still sell out immediatly

Well, I didn't have 15 factories running 'nades...just 7. I also started late in the craze. I hated it too...it was the only time as a WS where I went through any kind of real /tell hell.
I mostly made Thermals and C-12s, with the occasional batch of Protons (hate making them though). I didn't keep exact records, but I estimate I made 60-70 mill during the grenade craze. So far in armor I've made more than double that, with much less effort to boot.
Of course, making armor after the CU is boring as hell...at least it pays well.

Once the BHs stop trying to rip you off with extortionate prices for looted componets then youll probably have a better time making the cash. Once they realise that nobody will pay their priices then theyll drop and be a hell of a lot cheaper.

That's great in theory. Unfortunately, weaponsmithing is a very competitive business. With the rarity of these cells, weaponsmiths are driving up the prices. It's not entirely the BH's greed, it's the weaponsmith's desire to be the best that raises the prices, as well.
