Since the last big patch, repair kits NO LONGER require optional components. Fortunately and unfortunately this means that repair tools without optional components are more effective than before and repair tools that were made with optional components are less effective than before. If you get something repaired, have a weaponsmith or armorsmith (respectively, preferably Master) repair the item for you as there is a much higher chance of a good repair than without now. Using a 98.48 functionality repair tool I (Master Weaponsmith) have successfully repaired 5 weapons all at 30% or less condition with no more than 25 points loss to condition (around 18 points on average were lost). Had a NON-weaponsmithrepair5 weapons that were around 30%-40% in condition with the same tools and received 2 losses (weapon fell apart), 1 moderate success (80+ condition lost), and 2 great successes (20-something condition lost).

There is a repair skill. I've got 'repair' and 'weapon repair' skill enhancers.
When equipped, they appear to show that you had no other skill no matter what.
I've no clue what is the difference between 'repair' and 'weapon repair' as even opposed to 'armor repair'. No documentation, but then again, they didn't work for the 1st 3 months anyways. And they still report backwards inthe skills page.
