Thread: DPS does matter! As does.........

Weapon customisation would be nice to get back... scopes, stocks etc etc but somehow I doubt we will ever see it again.
And DaSh, your original post was quite correct, every stat has some importance to someone.
Ermm just a little question here but isnt it allready back? All be it some times rather borked. Generally if i add a barrel, scope, or stock to a gun i'm crafting it'll pop up in the final assembly. Though... some of them dont line up properly. Scopes on some of the pistols i've made popping in right in the middle of the frame. Barrles on T-21's beign put on sideways etc. Minor visual glitches like that. But i certainly see variations on other peoples weapons like this now. Where as I didnt used to.
From a simple test tonight with a couple pistols I'll explain why DPS really doesn't matter.
Using basic ranged attack with a 946 max damage pistol I was doing 674 of a possible 946 damage.(Numbers reported in combat log)
Using basic ranged attack with a 949 max damage pistol I was doing 676 of a possible 949 damage.(Numbers reported in combat log)
UsingLeg Shot with a 946 max damage pistol I was doing 1212 of a possible 1702 damage. (1702 = 946 X 1.799 modifier)
Using Leg Shot with a 949 max damage pistol I was doing 1217 of a possible 1708 damage. (1708 = 949 X 1.799 modifier)
From these numbers we can conclude that PvE damage is based solely on max damage of the weapon. Since min damage is ignored and DPS is based on ((min damage + max damage)/2 + elemental damage)/Attack Speed then DPS doesnt mean anything.
DPS is a quick and easy number to look at, but all that matters damage wise is the max damage and attack speed.

Ok, Iunderstand what you are saying. The DPS stat you see is not correct as only max damage is used by the damage modifiers. The thread is about how 'DPS' and not the 'DPS stat' matters.
As we all know, DPS tells you how much damage you will do per second over a period of time while spamming ‘Ranged Shot’ or ‘Melee Hit’. It is inevitable – especially hunting solo – that against high end mobs you will run out of action. Also let me point out that I am aware that there are ways to avoid this by not spamming specials, pausing between, or whatever reason you may care to post back with. I know!
This is also incorrect.
The DPS does not take into account speed caps. Often ive seen smiths on my server selling "uber dps weapons" where a lot of experimenting has gone to speed.
the result can be a weapon with 0.5 speed and pretty crap damage. The gun, even using ranged shot, will never do 0.5 speed. DPS is a completly pseudo number. Nobody should ever ever ever buy a gun based on the base dps stat
I totally agree with this. DPS would only be a stat worth noting if firstly you could guarantee a hit everytime and secondly no speed caps.
In my opinion the stats to look at should damage, SAC and speed and the person buying the weapon makes an informed choice.
