I dont think you can look at it as a money-making project. Look at it more like car crafters look at their hot rods: You put far more money in than you ever expect to get back. In this example, the reason you put the money in isnt to sell it, it's to own and use it.
Offering myself as an object lesson: I spent 750k on a yellow barrel (too much IMO, but whatever), 7.5 million on "exceptional" tissues, and the schem was part of a barter, likely the equivalent of 500k... I doubt I'd get anywhere near the 8.75 million plus resources and labor that I'm sinking into this project! But I'll sure as heck enjoy the weapon!
If you want to make creds off of the finished project, you wait until either you loot the rare parts yourself, or until you find someone who has no idea what they really have... and be prepared for a long wait!
