Its seems very difficult, If not impossible, too even try too compete with the older WS'sthat have been around since day one. I started little late Oct,03, do too RL matters. I have learned (From Experience Now) That The Hologrinding has ruined the game and economy, (and try too have a life, job, wife, kids, friends) is also verydifficult andLONG journey.I have heard the loose debris in the caves are no longer working (Nerfed Now Do TooAfk LootExploits ?I Guess) so i dont even have a chance too get a + WS Exp skill tapes now , so it seems. I know everyone wants the higher damage more condition items, I know i would. So how is SOE fixing this ? Seems they cant even fix the bike warping yet lol. I go out every day (STILL FEEL like im Hologrinding) do mission out the (You know where) too get credits too even buy the OVER Priced resourses on vendors or players and i still dont feel like i've made a dent in this profession. I feel like I have 2 jobs now, I have been doing this for a little over a month now because i finally unlocked after 27 long and boring professions. Who ever designed on how too get xp forBE should be(Well I Wont Go There)lol. Dont get me wrong, Im Not Complaining, Im A HC starwars fan from the first time i seen episode 4, Im wondering when, how, why, where can one get these + WS Skill tape or items? can it be found anymore?, I dont even see them for sale ever on my server trade forum, because there either non-availible or someone gets one, I Guess. They will either sell too someone who is already very rich and has really nothing else too buy because of there doesnt seem much in the game too really purchase but maybe so rare, camped area, items or of course keeps it themselves and becomes a WS because they know there in the money now. What im trying too get at here is why (Since SOE nerfed the caves n such) havent they fixed this issue? Maybe have a special quest? Toohave access toosuch Items or skill tapesfor WS's Only? (Example R.I.S Armor) I have heard that this quest is rather hard but for a +12 WS experiment points more? I would do it. Atleast now i'd have a choice and have better chance too have access too such an item. Sure i can sell here n there loot(Example Heavy duty leathers) and make 250k a week? lol and yes sell other loots (Geon, Ect, Ect) too maybe get lucky enough too buy one but that may take me hmmm1 yr or more? too play catch up with all the resourses i need and have these extra points ? (Ive already spent 20+ mil on most the resourses) but still need alot more and the real rare shifts have came n gone by now. So either the very rich Ws's Have bought it all up and will never sell too me because thats money out of there pockets. So maybe SOE can fix the Resourse Shifts too help newer WS's out? I feel my answer there is a No Also. All I can say is i love WS but i dont feel the SOE love the professions or have much respect for the crafters anymore or there paying customers.

To the original poster, I recently told someone else this, during an auction for a +6 Weapon Exp tape.

12 points doesnot a Good Smith make.

Ive been Weaponsmithing for a long long time, and due to good customer service, well stocked vendors and decent pricing, Im one of the most well known and respected Smiths on Ahazi.

And Ive only got 10 points. Ive never had extra, and although theres times when Id really like it (when trying to fix the damage caused by moderate successes for example) I know for certain that I just dont need it.

The biggest problem facing newer Weaponsmths isnt skilltapes, and I doubt highly that it ever will be, but Resources. Resources are the single most important thing to any Smith worth his or her salt.

So chin up, keep an eye out for every new shift of material, gather-gather-gather when that special one shifts in, and just keep at it.

I am not a 12 point smith and not really working for it...I have +11 worth of tapes but havent put them to use yet. I refuse to put money into tapes when I can spend the money on something more important...Resources.

I do plenty of business to keep myself and my alt going.

My sugestion to you is to build a customer base. Treat them with respect and treat everyone with respect. This will get you more business than have 12 points any day...

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

12pt doesn't have any significant effect in the current crafting system. All masters can max damage on every component with 10 points or less, so the extras end up in accuracy/HAM/durability. 12pt will get you 2 lower HAM, or +5ish accuracy, or another 100 durability.

However, 12pt did have a huge advantage on that crafting patch day. It was possible to put all 12 points into damage on some items and you ended up with things like 4.2 speed flamethrowers. Most crafters made a lot of schematics that day, and those who didn't will not be able to match their stats until they run out of patch day schematics.

It's a common misconception among 10pt smiths that having the extra +2 is a life-changing event. 90% of the time I use the extra points strictly for extra condition in an enhanced weapon. Another 5% of the time, it helps me save an enhanced weapon after a dirty moderate sneaks in. Not that my customers notice usually anyway, shrug.

I think your running your market in the wrong feild. Their are upwards of fifty weapons you can make, but I am sure you still to only the most popular easy to make ones.

Look towards rocket launchers grenades. Masters rarely make these, and if you sell them by crate you can make good money. Also look into sg82 rifles. Since most smiths have surrendered master artisan to be master smugglers. They rarely waste the time.

What makes the biggest difference in weapons crafting. Is the resources and getting them efficently. If you use crud resources you will never make a favorable weapon even if you have twelve points. Look at it on the lighter side. Since you did not spend seven million credits on skill tapes. You do not have to charge as much for your weapons.

12 points would be nice , but not entirely needed. As prior posts have stated, its all in the resources. If you give a 12 point smith and a 10 point smith the exact same components from the same factories and the exact same resources to build the same weapon, if no moderate successes , the speed and damage will be the same and the 12 point smith will have 2 points to put into condition or range or whatever.

I was the Weaponsmith Az was talking about.

I'm only a 10pt smith and I do a decent business considering I'm in the boonies on Talus. I'm willing to say 80% of my business is repeat customers with alot of them flying in from other planets just to shop my vendors. So like mentioned in previous posts, 12pts is nice, but not necessary to have a profitable WS business.

One of my goals in the game is to become a 12pt smith but not gonna break my bank buying SEAs. Need those credits for other goals at the moment (dang yellow cubes).I set myself goals all the time in game to keep the game fresh and interesting for me.

Better resources and customer service will go alot farther than the 2 extra pts IMO.

I actually broke down and bought a +14 CA in the last week.

edit: I mostly bought the tape and am going for +20 due to doing more krayt weapons and other loot enhanced weapons. Good to have a buffer for bad experimentation and then the rest can go into condition to extend the life of the nice weapons. Also at +1 pt, can squeeze +3 more range out of my advanced blaster rifle barrels.

Az hit it dead on .... his resources make hime near impossible to compete with. Consider that with good resources you can max the damage with 10 points .... so with 12 points your going to do what .... well there's always durability ... but wait .... with good resources it is already high. Hmm. well there's efficiency, maybe knock a whole 4 points off HAM! Or range ... move the ideal range stat ... that won't likely change the outcome of a battle so most buyers won't care.

Nope .... it is resources .... high OQ, CD, for firearms and high OQ, SR and sometimes UT for meelee. You have to win SOE's resource lottery, not the loot lottery. AND, just for the enjoyment and rich game experience of the weaponsmiths, from last April 1st to next April 1st there will be no spawn of resources used in weapons with any stat over 100... lol

I'm a 10pt Smith and it's a great way to go.

You get to work at making exceptional normal equipment, and ignore the uber loot stuff. Those are just frustrating!

Whenever someone asks me "if i getz me sumz uber kryatt tissuz can u making i uber gunz?//" I tell them to look for a WS with 12 Experimentation points, as I only have 10. They are almost always more than willing to go elsewhere. The few times I've tried making anything with good loot, I tend to get moderate successes which don't allow me to max the Speed/Damage bar. Which is very, very, very, very, very frustrating.

The only disadvantage is what will happen when hologrinding is over and people don't want low-medium end weaponry. With the flood of Krayt and other uber loot, I'll probably be suffering a lot from lack of sales.

I can see both sides to this. As a 10pt smith I've put all my profits into better resources and make good, though not quite the best, weapons. For most gamers this is fine, they know my shop is stocked, thatthey can trust the weapons will be amongst the best they can get, and I'm content with the level of sales I generate.

However, it is not for the normal weapons that the 12 pts are most important, it is for custom orders. When somebody says "Can you make me a Krayt whatever", I say 'yes', and then actually hope they never come up with the goods in terms of bringing in the tissues. The reason is that those two extra points are valuable in that situation. People looking to have Krayt weapons made are better off going to the 12pt smiths, and I will explain that, it's an insurance policy against the moderates and, god forbid, critical fails that can occur during a custom craft. It is a roll of the dice, and the 12pt smiths are lucky enough to have a couple of extra......

So it does make a difference, and I would like to edge a bit closer to that 12 pt situtation, but I'm not going to loose sleep over it.
