Thread: Weaponsmiths... solid money makers?

I play on the server Kauri and I recently considered going Weaponsmith with my second account in order to make money for my primary character. The server isn't dominated by one or two weaponsmiths like it used to be, however, most guilds have a weaponsmith that creates solely for them or gives them special discounts. I know nothing about this profession right now and would probably respec to master it cause I'm a bum but I'd like to know your all's success with the profession. How rich has it made you? If I want lots of credits is another profession a better route to take? About how much do you guys make in a week? I like weapons and thats why I might pick this over armorsmith but is this the cash flow profession that it used to be? Thanks for your help.

Another thing I've seen recently is that people aren't having a need for weaponsmiths as much. Most people I know use quest weapons or buy them off auctions. Has this had a dramatic effect on the profits you bring in?

Yes.

As for respecing, resources are a HUGE part of it. If you don't have access to the decent stuff that has been around or harvested for the last few months/years, its going to be a rough go. You can be a 12 point smith (keeping in mind a 12 point suit will likely cost you 30-40mil), force sensitive crafter, etc. But, without decent resources, you're not going to get a decent product. If all you're doing it for is the money, don't have the decent resources and don't really care about the product stats, then go for it.

Dont do WS for credits it will take months for you to make back what yo uhave to invest to get started. Do it for the love of the profession. Down the road WS will be very profitable (if you get wellknown and if the devs doesnt screw the profession further) but it takes a LOT of work to get there and if you are prepared to put a lot of work into the profession dont even bother. On the same note if I were to play my combat alt as much as I do my WS I would be able to make a lot more credits by looting/harvestingwhile running missions (or doing krayts or other highend mobs).

Basically if you dont love the crafting part of the game and start the profession cuase you fin dit interesting, dont een bother, If you however find WSing intriguing and you want to spend a lot of time getting into the profession this is one of the most funand challengingprofessions you can engage yourself in

Well I have plenty of money to invest and get started with and assuming I get all the best resources available, I was just curious to about what profit I could make per week.

again this depends solely on your dedication.

If you get your name out and people starts using your vendor then you can earn a lot if not well...

While I think that quested loot has cut into the WS business overall, what's hurting business the most are ADK's. As these continue to propogate throughout the galaxy, it will cut more and more into the WS business.

For example, when the game first launched, clothing would decay and eventually *poof* on you. The devs turned that off, and tailor moved from a consumer based industry to a boutique industry and they have never recovered. Weaponsmith will go eventually go the same route.

As far as looted weapons go, that is definately cutting in to business. For instance, since the CU, my TK customers have all but disappeared. The nek and katarn stuff is just too good. I still manage to sell Krayt Blaster Fists, but compared to the cost of Katarn knuckles, why spend the money when you can get free?

Basically, WS is kinda messed up right now. If you're looking for a cash-cow, go BE/Chef. Foods are really hot right now and are consumable items with a short life in the inventory. My chef friends are having a hard time keeping the vendor stocked. Plus with BE you can sell pets, clothing mods to tailors (when that gets fixed), and doc stuff as backup. If I was going to switch professions, this is where I'd go.

If you really want to go WS, I'd initially focus on munitions. Grenades are consumables that can be sold by the crate to FS grinders. What's also nice about them is that people are more tolerant on quality so you don't have to have the best product on the market to compete, just price right for the quality, advertise, and you'll have people kicking in the door to get to them. At least that's what I was doing pre-cu... that may have changed, not too sure as I hate making those suckers. Anyway, you can do this to build a customer base and then transition the business to other weapons as you develop the necessary resource stockpile.

Ive been a WS for around a year now and im probably the poorest WS on my server (apart from theones whohave just hit master) im sat between 20-30 mil between my characters. I only make enhanced weapons (usually ranged since CU) and i normally sell on forums. Havent done any auctions for a while as im caught up in questing and looting with my other alts. So ive got a few weapons sat on my vendor for now.

If i put as many hours into WS as most others then i could easily make 15mil+ a week. But since Cu Weapon Crafting hasnt been as much fun with the Caps and such but i love it none the less and would never quit it. Im just hoping a few Pubs. down the line WS will be made better with Caps removed or made harder to hit.

I dont do WS for money i do it for the enjoyment, and the satisfaction of seeing my weapons all over the server. You need to sit down and think what you want it for, if its only for making money then im afraid your in for a long haul. If, like me, your wanting it as a second option from fighting and looting all the time then id definately say go for it. you will still make money from it, just not as much as 100% 'Smiths.

Good Luck

creds well the easiest way

miner or loot hunter and seller.

chef/be will make you more money right now and it doesn't cost as much to start with compared to ws.

Be prepared to invest millions and millions just for the resources. 20mil to start with at least! then the suit another 20-30mil. And getting a name well you can't buy that.... in order to make millions a day you need a big and good name and that's very hard to get when you don't have the best resources.
