Anyone is able to use weapon repair kits in an attempt to fix the appropriate item.

However since a few patches ago it was 'stated' that crafting professions get bonuses in their field repairwise. However as this is hard to quantify if this actually works is anyone's guess. Though there's no harm in taking it to your weaponsmith to try - if the bonuses are there, then that's to your benefit and if they are not, well, his chance is the same as yours so you're no worse off than before, really.

All you need is a weapon repair tool and you can repair your weapons yourself. Weaponsmiths are supposed to have a better chance of getting a good repair, but my personal experience hasn't reflected that (could just be bad luck too). If you have a friend who is a weaponsmith you can ask them to do the repairs; otherwise I don't think you'll have much luck getting a MWS to do the repairs for you (they're usually too busy making their own weapons ).

sure you could do it yourself but there is an even greater chance fo failure-even a master weaponsmiht with a 99.9% tool can fail..its very very unlikly but he still can its kinda luck almost on success the better the tool the better the chance, im not sure but i think sliced good have a higher failure rate also...

Personally I haven't seen any difference in repairing the weapons between weaponsmiths and non weaponsmiths. However, I have invested in SEA's with weapon repair, I now have +7 to weapon repair. Since I've started using them the worst repair I did was -48 to condition, and I've repaired over 200 weapons using a 96.6% repair tool. I don't charge for repairs but most of the time I get tips so it all works out in the end.

You know, this has been such a large subject of debate in the weaponsmithing community since day 1. How do we go about getting a definitive answer on this (possibly from the game designers or devs?)

I have to agree with lauranna's stats and analysis. I still have about a 75% success rate - about the same as before the patch. I usually discourage people from repairing weapons until the conditon drops to below 400 as I don't think it is worth the risk.

It was changed in the patch and based on data from our community, there is a significant difference in success rates for repair. "Total Failures" were noted as significantly lower (as opposed to 50% of the time pre-patch).

I have also heard that non-Weaponsmiths automatically dent the condition a lot more upon repair. For example, Weaponsmith successfully repairs an item, and only loses ~50 condition. Non-Weaponsmith successfully repairs an item, but it loses 150 condition. I'll test this later unless I hear otherwise.

Most of the community has not pushed for significant improvements in the success rate for repairs, for a reason. I think you can figure out what that reason is. :>

I've repaired over 300 weapons - more than anyone on the Tempest server - and you are dead wrong.

Master Weaponsmiths do get a huge advantage over others in repairing weapons. But SOE has apparently been tinkering with the algorithms, because success rate ranges have varied for me with almost every subsequent patch.

How do I know this? Because I keep a log. And while the data is sometimes screwy, there are discernible patterns for some factors. Please search for my earlier posts for details.

Since I have the largest sample size of anyone, I'm fairly comfortable with my findings. I will agree, though, that we don't know everything about repair success rates yet...

By studying empirical data - just like in the real world. There were no devs to explain gravity to Newton, now were there

I keep a log, and my sample size is over 300 - start recording

Post patch my success rate hase been excellent. One customer brought his FWG5 to me 6 times before I lost it (cond was zero that time, but he wanted me to try anyway). Best repair I had with this FWG 5 was when condition was at 1 and it still repaired to something like 475/475. With non-sliced weapons, repair failures seem to be much higher, the last sliced weapon I tried to repair failed and the weapon was at something like 725 condtion. I use 98.8% repair tools made by a Master Artisan.
