Thread: A rant

Time for me to rant a bit, totally frustrated by the time I wasted tonight in game.

I have been a weaponsmith since release, and even a bit at the end of beta. I took my time getting to master, and overall I like the potential the profession has for roleplay and overall game interaction, not to mention being useful to my PA.

I am however sick and tired of resources. Getting them, keeping on top of the best resources, even simply keeping on top of whats spawning every second day takes up a HUGE amount of time, a full time job really and so much so that I seriously question why they took the miner profession out of the game during beta.

Even this however I can live with, to a point, whats really annoying me is storage space. Its almost like the only way I can have a comfortable work environment is to have a second account. Because of the resource issues I have one small house, my factory, and the rest is medium/personal harvestors which I have out all the time. My house is empty, its got5packs and a crafting station. My vendor is in another building, so really its just my crafing station, my components and the HUGE pile of resources.

I am tired of having to shuffle things back and forth to my factory ingrediant hopper. I am tired of having to put stuff in my bank in town, run all the way there and back just to do some crafting. I am tired of deleting good components because I need to be able to take things out of my pack.

I know several master smiths that have quit, all saying that it just takes up to much time. To much time running around for resources, to much time managing your inventory, to much time doing boring, mundane stuff thats almost like a job. The class has great roleplay and gaming potential, but I never seem to have time to partake.

Sorry for the rant, likely doesnt make sense and I am going to bed

How would a mining profession alleviate the problem of not being able to hold anything in your inventory, or in your house?

How a would a mining profession alleviate the problem have having different resources of different ages to choose from?

It seems that many weaponsmiths specialize to avoid that problem.

Simply pick what you want to make and stick to the resources needed for those items only. Either stick to guns, or mellee, or grenades. If you want to make everything, and have a stockpile of every named resource needed, then you should expect to have to invest a lot of time and effort.

Couple of things.

First and foremost, there are TONS of resource suppliers around all over the galaxies. I'm sure of it. On my galaxy, I work with somewhere around 8 to 9 resource suppliers. One of them is MASSIVE, and the other ones are movin on up. They are doing a great job too. So, if you don't want to have to mine all of your resources, see if you can find resource suppliers. Granted, there is no specific Mining Profession, but that's essentially what Resource Suppliers do. They run their extractors and sell resources...all the time. And that is pretty much ALL they ever do. They enjoy it, they make a HUGE BANK ROLL off it, I get what I need whenI need it, and everyone is happy.

Secondly, I do have two accounts and hence two characters on my server (and I'm actually thinking of picking upa third account). When it comes to all my extractors, factories, power plants, and my medium house, I had used EVERY SINGLE ONE of my lots. But, I was running out of space in my medium house. Not storage space, but just physical space. I am also a Master Arch, and I think medium naboo houses are by far the best show houses for furniture sales. So, I didn't wanna clutter it up. My basement was getting full, the room in between the upstairs and the balcony was SLAMMED, and I had nowhere else to put things and still have a good show house. So, I contacted another PA member who had 8 lots left, and asked him if he'd mind if I put up a Large Naboo House on his lots. He said sure! So, I created the house, had him drop it, and bam...TONS of storage space (250 items) as well as having PLENTY of ways to organize everything. Now I can put my ranged weapons supplies ina couple ofroom, my melee weapon supplies inone room, my architecture supplies across two or three rooms, and my crafting stations in yet another room.

It works out REALLY well. And if you are even tighter on physical space as well as storage space, just get 3 medium houses instead of one large. Each Medium takes only two lots (rather than the 6 for a large) and can hold 150 items each, but doesn't have quite as many rooms for organization as a large house.

Hope that helps

I have a crafting station with the droid strorage compartments i get 100 extra storage that does not count against my house limit i put all my resources in there. When i'm making up schematics i don't have to worry about getting my stuff out of packs. When i run my factorys i just get out the amount i need for the run and leave the rest in the station.

i have a crafting station with droid storage components, but they seem to count against the house total, what's up with that? i jave 10 lots open for installations, i have a friend who mules the powergens, houses and factories of his and mine, gonna have to put up another small house, this is a headache

Take all the time you listed to gather resources, and make sub-components, and factory runs, and then add to that the necessity of making a new schematic (experimenting just right) for blaster power handlers, every 100th usage. Now think about how little time we will all have to play the game.

You are right. Its like having a second job already...

ypcat,

See I think you are completely misunderstanding the whole crafting profession. Making schematics, making factory runs, getting exp just right. Making final combines, setting up vendors, putting our items up on vendors as advertisement, waiting on factories, working with vendors, working with customers, dealing with extractors...this is how a crafter plays the game. I'm not sure what you consider as "playing." But, in crafting professions, all the stuff you list as a second job...all the stuff you seem to dread is how us crafters "play" the game. In my harvesting profession, being able to get 6 complex structures built in a single day for customers and making them wait no more than 24 hours for anything they have ordered...that's how I measure my achivement in the game. The majority of the people in this game measure their success in running large quests, getting great items, pull krayt tissue, etc. For us crafters, gettin structures, weapons, clothing, armor, food, etc ready in a timely matter as to not make the cutomer wait is our epic quest. Being able to truly have a good thriving business on a server is how us crafters measure our success in the game. It's how we "play" the game. And having a good business requires A LOT of work. A lot of HARD work. A lot of advertising...forming good relationships with not only clients, but suppliers too.

In my personal opinion, if you are a crafter, you really must enjoy factory runs, making schematics, experimenting, etc. If ya don't enjoy these things, crafting might just not be the right profession for you.

managing resources is a full time job in itself, i hate it too, especially when we actually need to worry about the quality or particular type of the resource.

i REALLY wish they had made a mining profession

i hate ingame jedi. you totally ruin the game. sure it was cool to run around waving your lightsabre at the beginning. but now it is just annoying. the devs should never have implemented jedi. it has just causes imersion problems, many people feeling jiped, and now they are saying they are going to waste valuable developing time on making jedi specific content for you little virmen!

(my appologies to the few good jedi that are staying in hiding where they belong)

I have had it. When I first started playing SWG during beta I was very pleased with the wonderful worlds there were to explore. The first time I found the secret Jedi cave on Dantooine I was thrilled. When I got my first mount I was pleasaed to travel faster than I had before. Then SWG started a story line for both rebels and imperials and just as quickly dropped it. Holocrons started showing up and people started a game wide change to grinding, all for the purpose of becoming Jedi.

The path to Jedi changed from profession grinding to rinse and repeat critter killing. During the first style of grinding I became bored with the process and decided to wait until the new path was started.

OK my rant...

This game has become god-awful boring. I have been Jedi since jan. 1 not a long time compared to many but I have certainly had my fill. I am novice in all skills and 0030 saber. I wont continue with it.

I was watching TV while grinding and realized I was having more fun with the news than I was playing this game.

I wish everyone the best... this jedi however will find another game to play.

Good Luck and Godspeed.
