Since I'm established with 12 experiment points I like the change... but new SMiths who have no tapes will have no chance at competing against the quality I have even using the same resources, so I think the new system gives established smiths a huge advantage over new smiths, and it will inflate the skill tape market even more than it is already.

So while I'm ok with the system, I think to be fair to all Master Smiths not just the established and/or wealthy ones, getting rid of it is key factor.

to give youan idea

FT's 10 points 4.6 840
FT's 12 points 4.4 851

Jawa Ion 10 points 5.5 230
Jawa Ion 12 points 5.1 238

Old system or new system. Players will still always look for a 12pt. smith over a 10pt.

I can understand the rationale behind that belief, but I am of the opinion that those who subscribe to it are truly missing the point.

The point being, why does everything HAVE to be EXACTLY ( or very nearly so ) the sameas every other WS, be it Damage, Range, HAM. Why does the new WS have to be able to immediately compete with established ones? If his are just a little less in damage than yours, does that mean nobody will buy his weapons? Can every player afford to buy the best of the best, much less spend the time to search far and wide for it?

I see the new WS as simply selling slightly inferior products at a much lower price than an establised WS while the new one works his way to +12 (pretty much as it is now while they work to accumulate top-grade resources) . I've been a WS since launch yet I have only bothered to get +11, since I have relied on Amazing experimentation results to compensate for that last point.

And in that same context, a +10 WS can still work very hard and obtain very close results to a +12 with some luck, IMO.

I think this deserves further investigating.

I think it'd be cool if they aded a form of uniqueness to all smiths. Weaponsmiths for example. You are a master, but what else do you do. My idea is this.

Specializations.

A weaponsmith can specialize in say7 lines

Fencer/Unarmed

2H

Polearm

Rifle

Carbine

Pistol

Commando/BH

YOu get 2 specializations, you can spread out the specializations over 2 lines, or you can double specialize in one line to make superior weapons for that one particular line. You are so skilled in that profession that you can get an extra 10% out of the weapon for example, and one line specialization only gives you 3%

So you will open the doors for many other smiths, because specializations give the customers the choice to go visit other smiths who are specialized in the various areas.

I have to go now, but that is the basis of the idea I've had for WS.

I think my customers will like this patch !!! All the weapons I've made today have higher damage than before, even the ones that I don't have great resources for.

I have a whole +11. I took off my tapes and was able to re-create what I did with the +11 while I only had +10 capabilities, although it took a lot more tries and perfectly timed "lucky" results.

I've been a WS since launch. a WS with +12 can match and/or supass what I can craft, and that is as true now as it was before today. I couldn't care less. I have NO problem selling my wares, and I never have.

Now it looks like I need to start competing for tapes for that last +1 experimentation. No big hurry, I can't see myself being able to sell weapons to every person on my server if I happened to obtain the +12 and some unique experimentation results, nor would I want to try, as I'm busy enough as it is.

I think it sucks.. I haven't had any good success with the change. Tried making Advanced vibro's and 5 tries all of them were inferior to my old schematic ?!? go firgure.. I'll try again.

With all due respect, your rationale is ultimately flawed. You say "why should everything be the same to very nearly every other weaponsmith?". Well if you gave everyone 12 experimentation points it would be exactly the same deal, wouldn't it? I mean above and beyond the pre-existing resource differentiation factor, in the end it'll all come out flat, once again, when enough skill tapes drop.

So your argument for differentiation is a little self-centred, really. Sure it helps those +tape weaponsmiths now, but it doesn't really inherently allow for differentiation, does it? If everyone had 12 points, we're back to where we were before, pretty much, neh?

True differentiation would have to come with specialisations, an elite-elite type profession. Otherwise the only thing making you better than the other guy is loot. And frankly that blows - the draw was the non camping non uber loot need for crafting - this is a step backwards. It should be diligence in crafting and resource gathering, not the fact you could get uber tapes. Not to mention how broken the tapes are, I think the whole thing is ludicruous.

All this is doing is creating a barrier to entry. You really want to look like the snooty snobbish elitists we're always painted as? You say 'Why should a new weaponsmith be able to compete?' - well gosh, I hope you're not on the Welcome New Weaponsmith Committee. Hey, nice to meet you, you will suck for months even if you happen to have been collecting resources meticulously and researching thoroughly for months, coz I was here first and I have this tape see, ner ner ner, here have a coffee.

Sheesh.

If they know what they are doing and have access to the same resources to established smiths, then heck yes, they should be able to rival.

I'm all for specialisations and differentiations, but this is not a true form. This is just a hash, loot driven foolishness. You will notice without fail that the people liking this are always +tape weaponsmiths, but that is not to say all +tape weaponsmiths like the change. I for one am pleased to see they at least think outside their own pockets.

No in the old system I could max the dmg line out etc the same as a 12 point smithcould and it boiled down to resources! This meant there was no glaring difference in product (sure they have better cond/HAM/range but this ends up being not that much different in the end)! now a 12 point smith is going to make something that does more dmg than mine so I loose all my business because it boils down to DMG in the end for the majority of customers.

Excuse me, but since you have decided to come in here and start throwing around insults withwhatseems to me to be asocialist-based-CareBear-Crybaby mentality, I guess I can stoop down to your level and just plainly tell you to Bite Me!

After all the experimenting I have personally done today, there is now a wide difference in results from the previous "scripted" process that anyone can obtain. There is already a good variety of stats for weapons on the server, but not a particularly wide one. There are also other factors concerning loot that can and do dramatically change the end results, and the new process seem to promise yet more of a variety. Even with +12 you have a choice of where to spend all of those 12, and I have customers who do sacrifice damage for Range or HAM, and at time Condition, depending on their needs.

Not everyone is a crafter attempting to amass the highest possible amount of credits on their respective server. I get the most satisfaction from my customers feedback, overwhelmingly positive. I've directed many a potential customer to other Weaponsmith's who either stock what they seek if I have something inferior or do not make.

I am happy for the +12 WS's who can make even better weapons than I can at +11. I have helped, trained, advised, shared harvesting locations, GIVEN AWAY such things as the best resources/krayt tissues and even a couple of experimentation skill tapesto other Weaponsmiths, old and new, at times even when I really couldn't afford to release something that I also was either in short supply of or consisting of a rare nature. I also charge reasonable prices to my customers, and I have not amassed an absurd amount of credits that would allow me to buy enough skill tapes to hit +12as of yet, although I now actually have a reason to do this with the new changes, otherwise It's pretty muchnot a prioritywhenI can keepexperimenting untilI hit a string of amazings to compensate for that 12'th point.

Yet you seem to feel the asinine impulse to call that self-centered? Get over yourself!

You sound more or less frightened of "change", IMO.
