Thread: Poll Question: Is AFK spamming your shop location a good thing?

First, I noticed a MWS on Naboo (name not give to protect the innocent, lol) standing by the starport AFK spamminghis wares: ex: "Master Weaponsmith shop located just 'blank' of 'blank' selling Laser Carbs, Rifles, DX2's, Scouts, LLC's, etc etc. Please come by and check my supplies, etc etc." And every 2-4 minutes the same "spam". This goes on for hours....

Now this seems to be spreading. Bestine was spammed for over 5 hours tonight! Look, if this is what you have to do to make a living, be me guest. But doesn't it strike you as very similar to those annoying car dealership ads on TV every 15 minutes? I know how difficult it is to create a client base (not being one of the early MWS myself) but it just seems to me that it's not very classy? Just an opinion, and not intended to offend anyone.

Curious what the "MWS Community" views are on this?

I dont like it, I wont do it. There are other MWS around me who do it though. Actually I just had some guy plant a weapons shop right next to mine. But this uses the in game macro system, its legit. I do know some people just put these Macro Spammers on Ignore. i didnt want to make a post about it because I didnt want to give any other non classy people Ideas.

I think shouting should have either a credit or HAM cost. I despise the
shout hell outside of the starport in Coronet. I shudder to think about
the others I haven't visited.

I don't mind. At least if it is not to frequent 2-4 minutes is ok with me. I don't see any difference if they are AFK or is there.

The difference is that someone gets free advertising while afk. Asleep, at work. So if we all did this, what would it be like? You'd have 20 weaponsmiths at the coronet starport all afk yelling. And in a month, you'd have 100. I just think we should have some respect for eachother. And this isnt respectfull. Same as opening a weaponshop right next to an exsiting weapon shop. /shrug we'll see what happens, but I dont think it'll be pretty.

There is a whole skill box in Merchant that is suppose to allow you to do this also...so its obviuosly something that can be allowed in the game...if it annoys you /addignore the person... We all do what we have to do...I sell almost master quality weapons at greatly reduced prices so that I can actually sell some since Im nota master yet...Im a merchant so I can advertise and get sales also...When I go into a city I will shout what Im selling and make sales on the spot if possible...We have to do what we can to sell and people will do whatever it takes.

I have thought about doing this but have held off. If I do set this up it would be once every 20min to announce to the new arrivals from the Starport. I don't know if I want to tarnish my reputation in any way.

Entertainers get blasted for being afk, why should merchants get away with it.

I fear starports....

Come running out of the building planning on doing something exciting and you run into some of the worst lag zones in the game. I assume it is a combination of poor design, lots of people, con artists, guys re-selling stuff in the hopes of making a profit, assorted rip-off artists, and folks looking for groups and training.

Spare ME...

If your goods dont sell themselves, yelling at the top of your lungs wont help - try reducing the nosebleed prices, or moving your shop closer to town....

I never purchase stuff from these guys - I don't like the begging phenomenon either .... it has not been too bad as of yet, but it will get much worse very soon.

First of all, I've never been against AFK entertainers. What do I get from entertainers? Mind wound healing and battle fatigue healing. Cool. Ok, can I get that while they are AFK? Absolutely. If they get enough stims and a system down, they could AFK macro indefinitely. Can they still heal me while they are AFK? Absolutely! Do I care that they are gaining exp while AFK? Absolutely not. No AFK macroing would mean less entertainers. Less entertainers means less chance of a heal. If they get enjoyment out of being AFK and macroing...let 'em do it. Doesn't bother me.

I feel the same way about someone AFK advertising. They aren't hurting anyone, and if you don't like to hear them, just use the ignore function or move to another part of town. Personally, even with tons of advertisers in front of the starport and being in tell hell, I've never lost a tell because of /yells of any kind...AFK or not. So, I don't have any problem with them at all.

Lastly, about the HORRIBLE lag at starports, it could be your system stats. Not trying to be rude at all, but it might be. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB PC2100 DDR, and a 128MB ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. Yes, my framerate drops pretty badly for those first few steps out of any starport into the city, but it catches up pretty quickly. From there, I have very little issue functioning w/out problem in front of starport...even if there is a HUGE pet patrolling it (which happens alot in theed on naritus), lots of people, and tons of /yell-ers. Upping your system I'm sure will help with video lag.

Personally, I see it like this:

Any Weaponsmith who spams advertisements while AFK is in dire need of business.

Any Weaponsmith who is in dire need of business, in all likelihood, doesn't have the best weapons.

Moral of the story? Just ignore them; odds are, you'll find better weapons elsewhere. There are tons of much more effective, less intrusive means of advertising and anyone who AFK spams is just desperate.

Great input fellas, I agree with most the opinions expressed. As I alluded too, I hate all forms of spam: shout spam, email spam, and even spam in a can. Its just not for me; but if your weapons dont sell and you have to resort to being a 'Spaminator' be my guest and best of luck to ya. My ignore list is getting longer by the minute.

Well I do have a macro for a selling shout. But it doesnt loop, and I dont do it AFK. When I come through a starport, I'llnormally use it once, I keep a few crates of my good stuff with me in case someone wants to look. But no, I have better things to do than AFK macro spam
