Thread: How to say no to a customer without being rude

I'm a master weaponsmith, so I know all about the tell-hell we go through. Many smiths, myself included, can get rather ticked off that we either have to turn off our master weaponsmith tag which we're so proud of, or go "afk" in order to play in peace, in which case many people will just email their order.

I've seen many cases where a weaponsmith has been flat out nasty in refusing a customer, and as much as I'd like to that once in a while, it doesn't pay off. Many of my friends in-game think that weaponsmiths are just rude, grumpy people; I'd like to change that image. So, here are a few tips on how to politely refuse a customer-

-the first time you are asked, just say "sorry, no, I'm busy atm, my vendor is at such and such a location". If the person asks again, responda bit more forcefully. "No, I'm not making any weapons right now, my vendor may have what you are looking for." For particularly persistent customers, use the "I dont have the resources" excuse, and if they offer to get resources for you, tell them your inventory is full.

-I HATE when people see my afk mesage and send me an email, and so I just dont respond to them.

I'm not trying to be Mr. Manners here, but I dont like the negative image people have of me when first meeting me because I have master weaponsmith underneath my name.

I wonder how long this will last on the first page...

"I don't make melee, check <vendor in house next to mine>"

"I don't sell sliced weapons, check <other neighbor's vendor>"

"I don't make krayt weapons unless you provide the tissues"

"I'm <hunting | pvping | on harvester run | busy>, if the vendor is out then I'll restock later"

special orders: "email me your order and I'll get back to you when it's done"

I think the game really needs a /DND like most other online games have.

/AFK is for when you are away from the keyboard...

/DND is for when you don't want to be disturbed...

I'm not master yet, but I always get weird tells no matter what 'hat' I have on. If I've got a Carbineer hat on, it's people who just want to tell me their stats (Yes, they aren't requesting training, nor are they asking if I need training, they just tell me their stats... maybe indirectly asking to train me)

Novice Weaponsmith on, I get tells from people requesting stuff (at least I've got the excuse "I don't have that schematic yet" for 'em).

Or any of my other hats...

We need a DND tag

Well, DND is all well and good, but it stops our friends sending us tells too.

We need a /anon function so that we dont appear online in people's friends lists.

ooooooooh i'd love the anon thing. I'm not sure why anyone that wants to track when i'm on and off can without my consent. Kind of aids griefing.

The most annoying part isn't so much the tells as the people who want you to tell them the stats of ever single weapon you make instead of taking a trip to your vendor.

I have no problem saying no nicely once, and no problem saying no rudely after that. This is a video game. The credits aren't real. Unless they want to pay my real life rent, i have no obligation to them.

You silly noob's you just tell em this "I'm a hologrinder, sorry."

BTW, really should change the name of the vendor so they don't say, well your on the vendor's list.

Delete their mail without replying. I do that alot when especially when people ask for stupid stuff. Like can you build me a tangle pistol with uber damage, that kind of crap. Also, i found making your character unsearchable eases the tell-hell alot.

Trouble is when people add you to their friend's list, they know you're every movement and there's nothing you can do about it.

Had this issue this weekend several times.

1. I do not have the resourses for that at the moment.....

2. I am currently working on back orders. Please e-mail me and I will take the order in the order that it was recieved.

3. Well......I can make it quickly.....or I can make it well. Your call.

4. I appreciate your wanting the gun quickly....... but the more time I spend chatting the less time I have to craft. :^)

Darwin's Theory of Evolution is the widely held notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor: the birds and the bananas, the fishes and the flowers -- all related. Darwin's general theory presumes the development of life from non-life and stresses a purely naturalistic (undirected) "descent with modification". That is, complex creatures evolve from more simplistic ancestors naturally over time. In a nutshell, as random genetic mutations occur within an organism's genetic code, the beneficial mutations are preserved because they aid survival -- a process known as "natural selection.".................. If natural selection is true......can anyone explain some of the people on these boards? Snarfbinky

I prefer people e-mail me their requests. I even ask for it in my afk message.

If they do that, it's easier to reject them leter, in a simple e-mail, or just send them a wp to your shop.

How about tell them that you only make weapons for your PA. If they aren't a member you'd love to sponsor them. Please goto coordinates xxxx, yyyy and wait for me there. Then /ignore

Yeah, you could do that...

That's pretty mean, though, and this thread is about ways to say no without being rude.

I don't want to avoid being rude bybeing worse than rude.
