Thread: How Many here specailize in Melee only
Trying to see if I am the only one. I have never made a gun to sell I make only melee weapons.

I started as Melee-only, but the Ranged biz is just so lucrative that now I do both. However, I'm very well known for my Melee weapons, and I do make it a point to keep those heavily in stock.
My guild had a melee guy but he quit a while ago.
I thought about taking up melee after he left but then I looked around and saw how tiny the market was and decided it's not worth the time.

Ranged definately outsells melee ... I have been a ranged guy ... but I would lose those brawlers types ... they would walk up ... look ... and walk away.
I am now on a campaign to stock melee weapons ... got my first class3 solid last night (dropped 2 heavies on dathomir saturday night, 95%, 92%), and have my first run of vibro units in the factory now.
No sense in losing a sale cause your don't have what the customer wants :-) I would imagine it's the other way around to ... why not sell them a laser rifle or FWG5 when they stop to buy a Power Hammer?
BTW ... what are are your guys top 5 melee weapons? I would guess L-Vibro Axe, Power Hammer, 2H-Curved, VK's andVB's ??
On Kettemoor, I only know of one: Andover (MetalRat here on the boards). He has been all-melee since the very beginning and was one of the very first smiths on our server. There might be others, but if so they are not well-known.
Everyone else I know does firearms with a sprinkling of melee. I typically only do melee on special order.
Same here. Demand for ranged and heavy weapons is crushing, while melee demand is pretty soft. Maybe if the melee classes get a little love, we'll see more demand and more specialists.
Another thing that would help would be more options for enhancing melee weapons. I've heard rancor teeth aren't worth the trouble (can someone confirm?). If you could make a more unique product, it would be more appealing.

Pikemen are pretty much nonexistant, and they don't like the bugged -55 accuracy on the LVA.
Popularity is probably something like VK, 2H curved, power hammer, 1H curved.
Rancor teeth are indeed worthless. The ONLY thing they do good compared to a adv sword core is max dmg (50). Everything else is vastly inferior.
I'm a 4/0/0/4 weaponsmith, and I can tell you that people really love me when I sell stuff on the bazaar, but that doesn't really count ![]()
VK's sell faster than anything else.
I only do melee by special order, but when I do its the following in decreasing order of popularity:
VK, 2H Cleaver, Vibrolance, Vibroaxe, lance
I have never had anyone ask for a power hammer, a long vibro axe, or a stun baton.
Well, I guess I'm probably unique here in that not only do I sell melee weapons only, but after four months, I've made 3 swords, 7 curved swords, 1 dagger (just out of curiosity), andone schematic for a semi-decent power hammer, but no actual power hammers yet. A buddy of mine who logged on with my account (with my permission, of course), built himself a crappy T21 rifle (we didn't have jack worth of materials to work with), and I've screwed around with a couple CDEF pistols and such as well (I'm also a master artisan).
Everything else (in the hundreds) has been two-handed curved swords. Also, with the latest spawn of 870 UT dolovite iron on Corbantis (200k and counting), I'm probably going to be making a few hundred more. Still haven't decided whether I'm going to do a factory run of 400+ swords at maxed-out values (for the materials I currently have) or simply make each one by hand, which would limit that number to perhaps 50-100, albeit all inidividually named. I'm definitely leaning towards the latter idea (individually named), but given the time this takes and the steadily declining interest I've had in SWG lately, I'm not 100% sure I will.
Also, I don't technically make "two-handed curved swords," either; I make "Windswift," "Whispering Death," "Rising Sun," etc., then take them all to the same master smuggler to get them sliced. Anything with a 34-35% damage or speed slice (i.e., anything with a speed of 1.7 or a max damage of 321+), I keep (for my swordsman alt). Everything else, I dump on a vendor for 12-14k, and I don't advertise.
So far, I think I may have sold perhaps 7 or 8 swords, though I do tend to make money by mining; usually only when the mood hits or I'm getting too low in funds (as I'm starting to now).
