If you want to stay on a weaponsmith's good side, this small guide will help.

We can experiment on 4 different parts for most weapons:
Damage & Speed
Durability
Efficiency (HAM Costs)
Accuracy

99% of weaponsmiths put all 10 of their experimentation points into damage and speed. Not one of us will waste resources on a weapon that did not recieve all 'great' results when being experimented upon. Some weaponsmiths won't even put an item into production unless it recieved atleast one 'amazing' success along with the remaining 'greats'.

If you are requesting a special weapon from one of us, make sure it is something that we don't make by default. Damage and speed is what sells a weapon, so that's what we give you guys (99% of the time).

If you want us to make you something special, like an incredibly low HAM VK, or a high durability scout for pistol whipping, or a T21 with incredible accuracy, great, all you have to do is ask. But please, do not ask us plainly for the best weapon we can make, it's already on our vendor.

Man thats a greatly said post.

I recently made Master, and previously sold maybe 10 guns overall...

The day (yesterday lol) I turned on that Master Weaponsmith tag I started recieving tells...it started with "can you fix my gun?" to "do you make T-21's?" .... well the waypoint to my shop goes out and next thing you know ... "Whats your best rifle?" ..."I'm coming to your shop, I want the best gun" yadda yadda ...and each time I do my best to explain the details of *The best to ME, may not be BEST for YOU* and *I like low ham cost carbines, high damage pistols, and spot on accurate rifles* ...what do you like....

Well then came the best of all... someone said My guns where great! but wanted a low low low ham cost elite carbine with no worries of speed/damage.

I gave it to him free.

Made my day , some one actually complimented me and had taken the time (or knowhow) to look into the actual proccess of gunsmithing (crafting in general)

Dear Weaponsmith Forum,

I've read your stories here before, but never thought they were true. (okay, enough kidding )

Last week, about 10 minutes after I hit Expert WS and put on my tag, I was walking through Mos Espa and lo and behold:

Random Tell: "Hi"

Me: "Good evening."

RT: "Can you make carbines?"

Me: "Some, but not all of them yet."

RT: "I'd like your best one."

Me: "Best in what way? Are you looking for high-damage/speed or low HAM cost?"

RT: "What's HAM cost?"

Me: "About $0.99/lb atthe deli " (cracking myself up) "But seriously..." (and went on to explain what it is)

RT: "I want about average."

Me: "So a mixture of HAM and Damage/Speed?"

RT: "I think so. I've got 57 credits, what's the best model for that?"

Me: "Hmm...well, the resources cost far more than that, but what are you certed for?"

RT: "What does that mean?"

At this point, I went on to explain certification, durability, condition and so forth. I gave him a Short Carbine that I happened to have on me and refused the 57 credits. He then promised that he would get all of his weapons from me in the future; I can hardly wait...

What can you build onto a weapon, so it looks are actually changed? (ie. muzzle and scope) How many can be added? Can these items be added without sacrificing pistol stats?

Reen, the barrels are required components. Scopes are optional, but most smiths will put them on the gun (1/1/1 ham, +10 range bonus).

They only show up on hand made guns, and only if you pull the components out of the crate first.

Stocks are optional on carbines / rifles, add hideous amounts of HAM for little return (I use them on my heavy weapons to add accuracy). Same deal with hand making and visibility.

Great thread! I remember the thrill of finally making MWS - I turned on my new title prouding and with-in seconds was sent tells! I should have known better since I never used my Master Architect title either due to constant tells and requests. I proudly run around with my Homemaker or Businessman title, but now that I am starting to become 'known', I am fooling less and less people.

I agree that many customers do not have a good understanding of weapons crafting which leads to very frustrating requests and colorful comments. Some attributes (iu.e., speed, damage, certain ham costs) can be enhanced with power-ups, and there is always the 'tricky' slicing (hope for the best).

I cannot speak for other weaponsmiths, but I shy away from special orders. I really am strapped for time, and I really do not want to be responsible for critting on an enhanced component (they supplied) either. I only take risks with and formy close associates that trust me, and I trust them in return. They have a full understanding of my craft for the most part. What I have to offer is already on my vender. I want to keep it that way.
