I have a couple questions, at least one of which Im sure has been answered numerous times so I apologize in advace.

First question is, what is the best thing to grind for my first level in novice weaponsmith? Ive read many times that rifle projectile barrels are good at firearms 1, but what before that?

My second question is, is there something as good to grind at melee crafting 1? Im having conflicted thoughts, my character is learning melee combat so I would like to learn melee crafting first to supply my own weapons. Except the majority of people use firearms and there is more of a market for that. Would it be better to learn firearm crafting first and just use the money to buy melee weapons? Thoughts on this please.

My main question though was is there anything good to grind at level 1 melee crafting.

make blaster pistol barrels until firearms 1, then you can use projectile rifle barrels to finish off all of weaponsmith skill. pistol barrels give you like 64 xp per barrel.

unless you plan on missions or selling resources or whatever to make money, then finishing off melee for your own benefit would be a good idea. if not, work off firearms first.
