If I remember the rumor right, rumor had it Shipwrights were going to be self sufficient.

I have heard news that Shipwright will be like artistan, a basic pro with no prerequisits.

Weaponsmiths will build weaponry for space crafts

Armorsmiths will build Armor for space crafts

Droid Engineers --> droids

Architecs --> interior (Furnishings and such)

Shipwrights --> Final assembly and some new componets.

Just what I have heard though

I think thats a bunch of crock, especially when we as weaponsmiths have items that have no use, I mean a heavy warhead mechanism for instance.....

Bear in mind self-sufficient doesn't necessarily mean no other professions can have inputs. I'm hoping that while a shipwright can make basic weapons, armour, ship droids and so forth, it will take the respective professions for each of these to get upgraded versions.

So a shipwright can still be 'self sufficient' in so far as building superstructures and other expendables (for repeat business) that don't fall into any other elite crafting profession's sphere of expertise, and can therefore 'finish' ships but they will be basic only.

I sincerely hope this is the case, because if they make shipwrights completely the end all and be all it is, with all due respect, the stupidest and most idiotic design decision ever, when you couple theassertion that Shipwright will be a standalone "Starter"profession (no prerequisites I believe), and draws from the original 250 SP pool, whereasevery other crafting profession has prerequisites.

Devs are allegedly so big on being fair for Skill Point expenditure for combat classes, let's hope they engage the brain and not overlook the crafting skill point expenditure equity either. I'm sure Droid Engineers would love theidea that to make their droids self sufficiently they need to master Artisan as well as Droid Engineer, but Shipwrights can build massive vessels completely on their own.

I think this is a very important point. If they insist on making Shipwright self-sufficient then it must be placed on top of Engineering 4 in Artisan. If they want it to be self sufficient and a start profession to boot, then other professions need to be able to participate.

By reading through Dev response I think shipwrights will get most of the upgradable schematics also. Personally, I think its a complete shame that the Dev's are waisting this oportunity in bringing all professions into space. There is so much that could be spread through the current professions, its a shame. I am hoping at least we will be geting the missiles schematics. It is hard to believe that shipwrights have the knowledge to build aspects of every part of the game.

I hadn't heard that there are no pre reqs for Shipwrights. Are you sure about that? But as far as everything else, I think the way weapons and sheilds are upgraded is through space loot.

I'm not taking it as gospel but it's in this thread, which is apparently a very zealous player's work of grabbing all Q&A scattered all over the forums and consolidating it in the one thread.

I hope they don't go through it this way - if goes through as proposed it's the biggest shaft in existence - create a new self sufficient crafter profession with no pre-requisites and all upgrade paths are loot slave obtained. They'd be like what Jedi are to combat professions I'd say - hand holding all the way.

according to an interview w/ a dev on gamespot.com, a shipwright will b self sufficient like a ws, as, and de. i kind of like it that way. i wud hate if my ws needed another crafter class to help me make stuff. i think he alluded to the fact that u will need eng IV. but didnt say as much.

What, like the SG82, Lance, Stun Baton, Spraystick, and Tangle Pistol?

I have no issues with the Shipwright being standalone, even to 100% standalone.

Sorry, I just don't care. It'll have minimal effect on how I play.

Note: I didn't say "how my business does", I'm just saying it won't change the way I play. Why? Because I won't need to.

Saying all that, I think it would nice/interesting if they have 5-10 items that needed components from other Professions. Just, say, 5-10% of their (finished) items. That would keep it in line with other professions.
