Thread: I had no idea how tough it was to be a weaponsmith...

Ive been playing a bounty hunter and in the last few days started a second account to have an additional character on the same server. I must say I have a new found respect for weaponsmiths and feel ashamed of comments I made when looking for a weapon as a bounty hunter. Comments such as "what! 18k for a laser carbine..or my god, why cant he just keep his vendor stocked..etc."

I am lucky because when my Weaponsmith gets low on cash, I just run a couple hours of missions on Dantooine or Yavin with my BH and send 100k over. I can't imagine how people just starting out are supposed to make it. All you can do is sit there for hours, makeing crap, that no one will buy, yet you have to pay premium cash for the resources. Unless of course you want to survey for your own resources, and maintain harvesters and travel etc. with credits you dont have cause you cant sell anything.

I just made novice weaponsmith today, and was shocked to see how many resources i needed to make a basic pistol. And the parts for that, like scope, barrel etc. require resources too! I dont even want to ask what it took to make one of my Lightening Canons.

Hats off to you weaponsmiths, especially the Master class. I learnt a lesson I will be sure to pass on to my combat oriented guild mates.

im in the same boat, i just started a WS, im at novice WS right now, and have no idea how im going to get through the novice WS part... the only stuff you can build at this point gives very weak xp, any one have any idea what item i can make to give me the most XP per build?

and if your building say barrels in a factory does that give you xp?

Proj pistol barrels, or WUKs for smugglers.

Factories are supposed to give you 10% normal exp but it's buggy and only works sometimes.

I'm a former master tailor and master merchant, currently grinding to weaponsmith (master in 2-3days yay!).

I picked weaponsmith just because it is a lot of work. As a tailor you can place your havestor on any cheap ass resource you can find, just find a spot with high %. All cloth will end up identical anyway. all you can modify is colours.

I belive I will feel more attached to my products as a weaponsmith, the guns will all be different depending on my stock of resources, the hunt for good reasorces will be a challange in itself.

The fact that beeing a good weaponsmith is hard is probably why i will enjoy it so much, I also got lovley guild friends who will help with resources and components.

goodbye tailor, hello weaponsmith, here I come!

one more hurdle you guys will need to be on the lookout for is resources. It takes 2 months, from the time you start hoarding, till you can make all the weapons with competative stats. Sometimes even longer depending on the server. Final assemlby for weapons is cond/OQ 50/50 but subcomponents use anything from 100% UT to cond66/SR33 to cond66/OQ33 etc. If you find a resource with 900+ in those stats snag lots of it. If you find a NAMED resource with very high OQ or very high OQ and cond hoard it. Everytime a new resource spawns and you already have it (lets say Durralloy) check all the stats because yours might win with HR/SR for the barrels but may not be as high in OQ as the new stuff. Be prepared to suspend your grind to get as much of that uber resource as possible. If you find a platenite copper with cond and OQ both over 950 then your looking at something that potentially be the best platenite your server will ever see and you really cant have too much of this stuff. Something like that spawned on my server a month ago and I mined and purchased a total of 400k of it. I hope that lasts me because It could be a year or more before I see anything that good again.

I wish this could be posted on all of the server boards for everyone to read.

I made Master Weaponsmith about 2 months ago and am just the point that I am competitive with some of the best on the server because of resources that have spawned lately. I am lacking a Copper that spawned very early on but it only costs me .1 and 1 Dmg on an FWG5.

That being said, even though I am at the level now where I can produce essentially the same guns as some of the longer standing Weaponsmiths that doesn't help when some of them on a server have been elevated to 'god-like' status. Even though my weapons are the same as them I have trouble moving 25 guns a week because everyone wants a gun from the long-standing WS (even though they are more expensive with the same stats). It comes down to brand recognition I guess.

The hard part I thought was getting to Master Weaponsmith, then I thought the hard part was getting the resources to become competitive and now I am thinking the hardest part is to actually get people to come use your product instead of the one they have been used to using for 2 months.

The saga continues....LOL

I sell a single WUK for 100 credits. A crate for 2500.

So 600 cr for a WUK is very high.

Aeliel, Eliss, I'm a member of the same damned club!

To get sales up, I been hitting the advertising HEAVY!

I'm like a damned telemarketer these days. I have a group in my friends list called customers... I spam them at least three times a week. I offer specials, door prizes, low cost, and higher quality than some of the established smiths for certain items due to some strategic hording several moths ago.

I always send a thank you respons whenever someone buys any of my stuff, which is, of course, attached to an advertisement. Once a week a throw a couple nice DH-17's and an FWG5 on the bazaar, along with advertisement in the description box.

As of yet, my marketing startegy seems to be working, I'm getting about 3 or 4 new customers per week and more people are starting to gmail me with special requests or to say they are coming by the shop, make sure I have X weapon available.

That's just my take. What are you guys doing to try and break into the big time?

I lucked out and had a decent stack of the nice irlonium gas that everyone is out of on my server and had an established customer bas from being a master archiect. However i have no intention of actualy compeating with all the other smiths i make Guns with stats on par with the top on my server but like just making guns for my friends and people i run into along the way. That and i dont want to drop anypistoleer or CH to get a vendor

Heh, try architect some time. We can't sell anything for anywhere near how much weapon and armor smiths sell their gear, which come no where near the resources required for structures.
