Thread: Questions about adv components for VKs
Alrighty then...
I'm beginning to work on the items needed for my Master VKs, and have some questions.
1) I know Nyms boys are a good source for VK components. Is this still true?
2) There are 2 components right? The motor and the....um....the other thingy (Acctuator?)
3) After getting a good set of components, I know that a Master Weaponsmith has to create these items. Like slicing is there a random factor to how well they make the componets work?
4) Should I get my knucks sliced FIRST and then add the componets on? Or Vice versa?
5) Lastly, If there is anything else I should be aware of about this procedure please let me know.

Nym's are the only mobs that drop vibro motors I believe. I had heard droideka's a while back but that might just be "Nym's Droideka"...I don't know, but nym's drop them. It can have two forms, +max damage or +wound chance. You want +max damage (typically +20, some are higher). You give them to a weaponsmith, the best master WS you can find, who makes great VKs normally. They use the motors as a component of the crafting (they have to be crafted in, you can't add them later). Have them use all the motors you looted and make you that many VKs. Then you have them all sliced by a Master Smuggler. Hope for damage slices. Yes crafting has varied results. You can have a critical failure which when you're assembling the item will destroy all the components, you can have a moderate failure, a success, a good success, a moderate success, a great success, and an amazing success. Basically if the WS gets all greats (the most common result for masters) you've got a great pair of VKs. If there's a multipoint amazing (they can try different #s of experiment points at once) your VKs will max out the damage category faster (probably the same damage as all great successes, the max is limited by the materials used) but you'll have a lower HAM set since they'll have more points to spend on reducing HAM, or improving the range mods (accuracy). I'm sure that's more than you ever wanted to know. Really you only need to know 2 things:
Kill Nym's to get +max damage vibro motors
Give said motors to a Master WS who already makes great VKs/is well known, they'll know what to do

About Nym loot:
3 Different types of Motors,
High Powered Motor : raises max damage (i've seen +20)
High Frequency Motor: raises wound (i've seen +5 and up)
High Velocity Motor ( i think that's what it's called): lowers speed
Now those are enhancements, only 3 types and only 1 can be used per Knuck but here are some other things.
Vibro Units,
most that are looted are crap. but there are some legendary ones, the one that was used on my knucks had 68 max, 50 min., -.8sp. and some high wound, these make the most significant change to a weapon. most of the items are dropped from nym's but oddly enough just today i looted a motor of a rebel npc. hope that clarifys things.
