Is there a way? As far as I have seen you can only use faction perks such as an AT-ST against opposing factions. All faction missions I know of are against ranged NPCs, so I take all the hits even if I send an AT-ST in first.
If there's a way to put this million credit machine to work to help me train faster I would love to hear it.

stand 64+ meters away, then send in at-st, then move in carefully.

Earn 1 million Imperial Faction points, then go to a Recruiter and tell him to turn all your faction into TK XP!

That would work, except the AT-ST doesn't close in, instead it stops and shoots from a distance. Not much help for training melee.

I used faction pets to train tka, but not an atst, I have 3 commandos I switch between, how I do it is I get 70m from the base, tell the commando to attack the base (not the npcs), once all the npcs start targetting the commando I run in and attack them, even if I don't kd or warcry the continue to attack the commando with me in thier face, if you notice when you attack any type of lair the things around it target you above all else. How long I can use one before switching to another just depends on the mission, 30+ difficulty missions it can only last 2 missions before switching to a new one, I recently got a darktrooper so I could get 30 difficulty missions again and it seems to be able to tank about 4 30+ difficulty missions if I kill the npcs quickly.
